I think they do well with the budgets they have but often I feel that if given more money they could have done more. Even the movie Ginger Snaps, I remember everyone who saw the first one said the liked it but the ending was very "Canadian" it was more of a thinker. I liked the ending a log, even though I concluded something entirely different from everyone else lol but it's obvious that there are similar movies that get a much bigger special effects budget.

Bon Cop Bad Cop is about an Ontario Cop and a Quebec Cop who are forced to work together on this murder case that centers around hockey. It's funny as hell and also has lots of adventure, some angst, sex, tears... just everything, and a pretty good storyline, it's got the fine points of Canadian films (that they make you think instead of just mind numbingly watching) but it appears to have had more budget to keep it looking flashy to attract more audience :)
