So I have a great idea for a fanvid for the Firefly ep 'Objects in Space.' It's semi planned out in my head, I made a title screen and my credits screen, have the song picked out, and what does the video file I have do? Why it crashes movie maker of course! I even got adventureous and tried it in Adobe premiere, which it also crashes....

Apparently this has something to do with the fact that video files are being encoded differently and this crashes some media programs. I'm so unimpressed.

And this idea is going to be stuck in my head until I get it vidded out (just ask the Serenity one which has been in there since December and which I can't make until I get a song of of the upcoming Sarah Slean live album (providing of course that the song I want is on there.)

What format is your vid file in? I've got Objects in Space as a regular .avi file, and I'm pretty sure it'll open in MM without being all crashy. (Crashy? BOO! HISS!) I can try it once I find my disc; want me to send it to you if it works?

Thanks for reminding me that I started a Firefly/BDM vid *ages* ago. I've really gotta get some work done on that.

I'd love it if you could send me a copy of the file... I think the download that I have must be corrupted or something :S I'm going to have to DL the whole season again I think, le boo. But it would be amazing to get this one ep out of the way so that I can work on this vid.

It could just be a Movie Maker glitch. That happened to me once (back when I was making one of the two vids I've ever done); every time I went to add an effect or transition, MM would crash., and I would swear at it like a drunken sailor. That could be the problem here - it's a hardware acceleration thing, not a vid file screw-up.

Here's how you fix it (if you're using XP): Right-click on your desktop, and select Properties. When the 'Display Properties' window comes up, go to the Settings tab. Hit the little Advanced button, where another little screen will pop up; click on the Troubleshoot tab. You should see a slider bar, with 7 notches, going from None to Full. Move the slider to the third from the left; the little blurb underneath should read something like 'Diable all DirectDraw and Direct3D' blah, blah.

Apply those settings and restart your computer, and you should be shiny.

(Of course, if it *does* turn out to be a file mess-up, I've got all the eps-and the BDM-in pretty .avi file, which I'd be more than happy to upload for you.)

It was a file mix up BUT I found a torrent file last night that is working okay :) Music video is now underway :) I'm going to have to find a copy of Serenity though but now I know who to ask if I can't torrent a good one :)

woot Serenity! That music vid won't get made until Slean's live album comes out but I'm hoping that'll be in the next few months :) If her concert actually happens I'll ask :)

I would love to be able to make vids. I have so much respect for people who do. I just don't have the patience or the skills.

Speaking of which, do you know if anyone ever made a VM vid to Sarah Slean's "Duncan"? I remember looking for one months and months ago, but I don't think I ever found one. Maybe I just didn't know where to look ...

I've got one of those bobbing around in my head for an episodic video... I do believe that someone has used Duncan for a character vid.... check http://community.livejournal.com/neptune_video/ usually most of the Vmars videos I see come from there :)
