I forgot to write that it was a highschool reunion this past weekend. All I can say is meh. I actually went. Dell, Norma, Annabelle and I decided to do a walk through and that's pretty much all it was, we walked through the school. I saw all of 1 teacher who I wanted to talk to.

Perhaps the lowlight was this loser teacher Miss Dove talking with us. Now she was a flake as a teacher when I was still a student there, it was well known that you could do anything in her class and she wouldn't care. Students would be rolling joints on their desk, she just "didn't notice." My brother knew her as the Politics teacher who didn't know who Che Guevara was as he wasn't on her lesson plan and she didn't need to know that. Yes folks, she is a winner. She was talking to Dell about getting a job and her advice was "once you get hired by the board of Ed. you can just coast, you won't have to worry about work anymore." That attitude clearly showed through in her teaching style and the fact that people like that are teaching and I couldn't even get into Teacher's College this year is just appaling.

Other than that, we wandered through, managed to not see anyone we didn't really want to see and were reminded that really most people from highschool who we still wanted to be in touch with, we were. It was alright but I had more fun visiting Dell than visiting the school.

High school reunion huh? Geez. I'm gonna dread going to mine when it comes up.

As for insufficient teachers - I hear ya.

I didn't know you were interested in becoming a teacher. Thats great. What type/grade etc? Are you getting your masters?

This wasn't the actual reunion, it was the celebration of 100 years of the school being open. I'm totally not going to an actual reunion if we have one LOL.

I want to teach highschool English. In Ontario we don't need our Masters but we do need to get a Teaching Certificate which is currently a tricky program to get into but I'm trying again next year :)

Another example of a person who makes everyone else in her profession look bad. The worst part is, she's setting such a terrible example for so many young people.

Yup, I think that most of the reason I want to be a teacher is to do better than many of the teachers I had. So many people just taught because it was an easy job to get at the time... not a good reason to stay there for 20 some odd years but they do and it hurts so many students.

If only they could get a job where they'd be shuffled off into a windowless cubicle and not hurt anyone else ...
