My Polaris convention report got rather lengthy so I'm going to split it into the three seperate days to make it a little more legible, with a picspam coming when they're done :)
So without further adieu here's Friday night which includes Buffy and Firefly panels and a lot of getting settled, not too long since this was just the evening.
After work I met up with Jo and took a long long bus ride out to the hotel. On our way in we met a girl who was going to be dressed up as Elphaba for the weekend. So amusing that of all the costumes that would be the first one we’d run into LOL. We got in. Things were a bit chaotic, it was getting close to opening time for Friday evening and I think that the dealer’s room was already up and going. We lucked into finding Emma right away (she had the keys to the room) so we went up, put our stuff in her room (ours wasn’t checked into yet) and then went back down so I could find where to register and Jo could pick up her pass and get her list of panel’s she was on. Both were found pretty easily and then we stopped by the main room so Jo could get her work schedule and then I went off to my first panel.
Panels are quite interesting. Since this is a con where much of the day’s events are panels I was hoping that I’d like them or else I’d have had a boring weekend as there weren’t that many guests who I really wanted to see. However they’re a lot of fun. It depends on your panellists but if you get good ones who engage the audience in discussion then they’re just fun. You sit there and talk about things that you really never get to talk about in day to day life because most people would look at you as if you were crazy if one started discussing in depth character theories etc.
My first panel was: Buffy – Season 8 and Beyond. Fun! I’ve not joined any TO Buffy groups so this was a first for me to be able to sit and talk Buffy. I didn’t really talk much at this panel, just absorbed the whole experience and enjoyed. After that it was straight to Firefly 101 which was fabulous! Justin Magie and Marcus were our panellists and they were hilarious together. During this panel Jo dashed in, got me to circle all of the time’s I’d be busy on my schedule and then took it back to Monica so my work schedule could be made :) Then I went to go to the Buffy musical singalong (which was sadly scheduled at the same time as the Whedonverse geekoff and a Shepherd Book panel) but the Buffy one was moved to 10pm. I was going to go back to the geek off but I ran into Jo, Tom, Sue and Dorothy on my way over and instead it was decided that food was a good idea so we ate and then Jo and I ran back over to get my schedule and get me signed up in the volunteer room and then ran to the singalong where we met up with Tom again.
I loved finally getting to be at a BtVS singalong. I was sitting between Jo and her friend Amy who can both really sing so that was really enjoyable. I just saing along where I sort of could hit the notes…maybe ;) and just had fun :)
Next up Jo had an 11pm panel, I was almost passed out on my feet by then so Tom and I hung out for an hour and then met up with Jo after her panel so we could head back upstairs and switch rooms and so I could pass out. All of this was done, we met our fun roommates Kevin and Amanda and I managed to be asleep by 2 which was not bad at all.
***ETA*** I forgot to write about how at the BtVS singalong we had a Klingon (probably from the Klingon Kareoke) come in and sing and dance along to all of Sweet's parts of the episode. At first I thought he was just going to screw around but the guy knew his stuff. So amusing!
