So plans for the weekend fell through twice (two seperate plans, both didn't work lol) but then I ended up being able to go see Great Big Sea and Broken Social Scene perform in Dundas Square last night *free* yay!
I made my brother go early because I wanted to see Great Big Sea. This was the first time I've seen them perform live and they are great :) For sure I'd reccomend seeing them perform live to anyone, they were a lot of fun.
After them we wandered away because some French Opera was going to go on for a bit so we went to get food and stuff and call Dell to see where she was. By the time we made it back the crazy opera was in full swing and it was not good. I have nothing against opera, I actually quite like some of it. Crazy clown surrounded by huge eyeless red giraffes who have christmas lights around their neck who then does sexual things with some random lady.... not high art in my book. This also was LONG people. We must have missed at least 15 minutes of the performance and still had to sit thorugh over an hour more and the performances were only supposed to be an hour. Add on top of that they had the bright idea of moving through the crowd and when you pack a place and then try to wheel 6 giant giraffe things through it it doesn't work so well. Near the end, when everyone was super restless because Broken Social Scene was supposed to be performing at 10 and it was now 10:30.... they came back to near the front where my brother Danny and I were and everyone got so squished because we were packed up front waiting for the band.... I kept almost being knocked over... the crowd was fine, no one was pushy but the giraffe things needed room so everyone kept getting shoved out of the way. Honestly I felt bad because these singers are doing their thing and by the end people were booing and stuff and that's gotta hurt BUT the people who organized that have to realize that yes you get more exposure by putting your act between the two bigger bands of the night but you've got to keep something like that short and sweet (also more crowd appropriate because it was crazy sexual and there were a lot of kids there but that's a whole other rant lol) because these guys went for about an hour and a half and it went from being quirky but sort of interesting, to mildly annoying, to just endless bordom in that time span.
FINALLY they ended and I got to see Broken Social Scene. This was my introduction to the band I didn't really know them but we had a great spot so that was cool. I like them, I wish they'd had their larger brass section there because that's supposed to be really impressive to see but they rocked out and had a great time. Sadly just as I was getting really into their set they had to cut it early :( Why you might wonder? Well because the fucking giraffes had taken too much time! The fuck? (let's also note that most of the opera consisted of the word "giraffe" and it was not sung, just repeated over and over... hell with that talent I could be an opera star... anyways) So I got a short but sweet intro to BSS and learned to fear french opera. For me Great Big Sea was the highlight of the night.... also those boys are very nice looking yes indeedy :)
Oh and we saw Jully Black perform a few songs, she was good too :)
After the show I ended up going out *gasp* it's a shocker I know lol to a bar with Dell, Erika, Norma, Joelle and Martin. It ended up that I went to bed around 3 (half an hour before my dad had to get up for work lol) It was fun but I was so tired by the end... I'm really not a going out person anymore unless I have lots of notice. Je suis boring lol

Date: 2005-07-09 04:51 pm (UTC)I am not much for going out and stuff anymore. I am "too old". I will go out and have a drink, or dinner, or something, and then I am like "okay lets go..." Yeah, lame to a lot of people. LOL But I passed that phase in college. (Unless it is once in a while, going out, for fun, but that is not too often, it is a special thing LOL).... so you are not boring! :) lol
