I just realized that I forgot to post my yearly thoughts on RENT yesterday which was the.... oh 8 year now I think... anniversary of the Canadian cast leaving TO to go on tour.

So wow, 8 years, clearly I feel old. Of course the not so good news of this year that's related to that time is Chad the Doorman turning out to be a pedophile... not really surprising when you think about it but still, ew. Actually Tonya must be super attuned to the TO news because none of the old RENTheads I know here (myself included, although I don't watch very much local news) caught this story. So random that she posted it on one of the few nights when I had nothing to do and was wandering LJ. Actually the last I'd heard of Chad was the rumour that I was sleeping with him.... I also heard I was sleeping with a few RENTheads lol! Apparently I was quite the slut ;)

Actually some things have come full circle this year, rumours ended and generally the last of the stress from that time is now totally gone. My revelation, all teenage girls suck. Even theatre fans still go through that bitchy rumour starting phase. Biggest lesson for me, don't be so damn trusting. Just because people have interests in common with you does not mean they'll actually ever have your best interests at heart.

In the end though I'm still so glad to have discovered RENT. When I was so stressed out it was a great way to go and cry and thus not get stress stomach aches and all of that which was going on just before I started going. Good lesson on how to take care of myself since I will cry more over fiction than I will over real life. Of course the whole subculture at the time really did appeal to my media OCD. I always have a show or movie or play or something of some kind and for me, that's just fun.

Also, as I say every year, I did make some great friends in line and in NYC (and even now on LJ from time to time), I wouldn't even have the job I have today if it weren't for someone I met in line :)

And RENT and Tamara Podemski were my first reason for going to NYC and what joy that city has brought to me! I even took my first Montreal trip to visit a friend from line and that was a kick and a half :)

The movie was of course fun. Not a great great work of art but MUCH better than I thought it could have been had they gone with celebrity casting instead of pulling in the OBC and I got to go with friends of mine who I used to see the musical with so how's that for coming full circile?

Perhaps that was my theme of this year. Coming to terms with a lot of things, finally setting some things right, and generally coming to peace with my life so far. I'm in such a good positive place these days :)

So my self appointed lyric to sum this up is:

Forget regret or life is yours to miss
No other road
No other way
No day but today

cheesy but also true.

I do wonder if Jonathan Larson can ever look down on us and see how his show has ended up touching so many lives in some way or another. It's an amazing thing to have accomplished.
