I had a fabulous time at Four Sheets to the Wind screenint yesterday. For all BtVS/Angel fans, Christian Kane is in the film (which was a total surprise to me) and the selling point - he has his shirt off ;) The film should be out on DVD I think in January... buy it!

The movie is really very good. The pacing of the story kept my attention really well and the film itself is beautiful. I was watching and mentally making icons for many of the scenes. It was shot in 18 days and they accomplished so much in that short time. There are huge blockbuster movies that never manage to frame their shots so well.

I also was really impressed with the onscreen brother & sister relationship that Tamara and Cody portrayed. It was spot on for the older sister younger brother relationship.

Tamara was in town for the screening and she and the director, Sterlin Harjo, did a Q and A for the film. There also was a short film called "I'm Not the Indian You had in Mind" by Thomas King and he was there to answer questions as well. That's such a neat thing to have after the movie. I'm not a big question answer but I like hearing the neat tidbits that come up.

Jo and I couldn't stick around for the afterparty because I was being a suck and was trying to get into work for 7am today so afterparty was so not a good idea. But we did get to say hello to Tamara after the film. She's said she'll tour through TO when she has a new album out which is excellent. It sounds like for now she's more into the music scene in LA than the acting one.

We also saw Karen LeBlanc and Tricia Young briefly on our way out of the theatre and said hello. Karen may be doing another Sharron Matthews show in December. I hope she does, those cabarets are fun!

This morning I slept through my alarm though so I might has well have gone to the party, I woke up at 10 to 8 (I start work at 8) and was out of the door in 5 minutes flat. I hate waking up like that but at least I was only 15 minutes late. Tomorrow I may have to try for 2 hours early instead of 1.

Time to post about happy things for a change!

Tonight is the TO premiere screening of Four Sheets to the Wind. This is the film that Tamara Podemski (see icon) won a special Sundance award for last year and I'm so glad I'm going to be seeing it!

Also they restaffed the Booster Juice (for those of you in the US this is very much like a Jamba Juice) near to where I work and I'm so thrilled with their new staff. The summer staff didn't pay attention to what they were doing so when you ordered something, you might get what you ordered or you might get something totally new. I have no allergies and pretty much like every smooothie I've had from there so it wasn't really a problem per sey. I never complained because they were young and they were trying their best and were always friendly. I gave them points for effort. But the new staff are making things properly and it's all so tasty!

I feel like a model of restraint. There's a fashion show tonight at which both Sarah Slean and Tamara Podemski are modeling and I'm not going. True I almost caved and had Viv been going I probably would have been there but she's working and this is not an event I'd want to go solo to. Although if they both were playing music I'd be there no matter what.

Also I got my tax refund on the weekend. So exciting! I want to get a laptop eventually with that money and it'll be great for moving. I'll be able to hire movers *yay* I was so glad we had movers for the last move, it made things SO much easier than when I've helped friends move. Things are done in half of the time and we were able to relax.

The weather here is still super grey and chilly. Not very spring like. I want sunshine for my birthday and that's in 3 days!

It's only 7:30am, I went to sleep sometime after 2, not sure when.... and I'm awake and can't sleep.

Oh RENT surprise I'm teasing you all with will be a bit late, tecnical difficulties :S But I think Monday night it should all be a go :)

Last night I went out to a concert, the perfect thing after a HIGH stress day at work. I saw Tamara Podemski and Lucie Idlout and there was a new comer who played in between their sets but I didn't catch his name.

On to the night! )

This weekend if you're in Canada you should check out two of my favourite performers on TV :)

First Tamara Podemski is a presenter at the Aboriginal Achievement which will air March 31st at 8pm on Global.

Tamara also has a concert this Friday night *yay*

Secondly Sarah Slean's movie Black Widow will be on CBC Sunday April 1st at 1pm on CBC

Just got home from seeing Tamara Podemski play a gig at Old Fort York. Which is a lovely little piece of Toronto history which I'd never seen before. Of course it was freaking freezing so I didn't spend time seeing much, perhaps when it's warm. It was an odd sort of night but good. Actually this is the first show of hers that I've been to that I FINALLY didn't feel anxious about being there. She played a good set with one of the songs from her Spirit Voices album which Jo and I each bought a copy of so *yay* I was also glad to be able to say congratulations to Tamara for her Sundance Festival win in person instead of emailing it. So this show had good timing. Although, had the Sarah Slean Kingston gig actually happened then I'd have been there missing this night. So perhaps that turned out well then :)

Karen LeBlanc was there as well, she's going to be singing a couple of songs on the 12th at the Gladstone... I'm very much considering going, I'd love to hear her sing again. It's just interesting to see where our Canadian RENT cast members have ended up. I really was so young when I was seeing the show here and just was in awe of all of them, and now almost 9 years later it's just so neat to be able to still see them perform and to see how everyone has evolved as performers. It's a little bizarre :)

So aside from the FREEZING weather and the long long waits for streetcars it was a good night. I'm glad I let Jo talk me into going :) I'm now starving (too nervous to eat much before I left, oops) but I'm cold and sleepy and I think I'm just going to bed.

I went last night to The Beat show at The Horseshoe to see Tamara Podemski sing. Once again I was totally nervous, which was then compounded when I realized that much of her family was standing beside Nomi and I for a while. I actually think I saw this girl who would have been just a kid who I almost ran into (literally) after Tamara's last show in Toronto many years ago. Bizarre.

Let's go back to the beginning of the evening, some random creepy guy followed Nomi and I in from the bar to the back part where the show was happening. He would not shut up, and would not stop asking Naomi out. She shot him down about 6 times in a row and then it just got really creepy and I made her switch seats with me because she's just far too friendly whereas I can be a total bitch when needed. So I pulled out that attitude, told him off and he quickly departed. Just as well since he wasn't there for the show at all just there stalking Nomi. Creepy like woah. Which leads me into the rant of why do men think that persistance like that will work? Hullo, clearly you just get more creepy the longer you try to give your buisness card or ask for phone numbers repeatedly or try to make a date for the next night. If someone continually says no to you then the answer is no, move on to someone else.

Once he was gone that was far better, at least no one was around to yammer in our ears while Tamara played. Her set was really good, only 7 songs this time but it was a solid set and it was cute to see all of her audience interaction as she had her family out there :) After the show Naomi went to get her CD signed and was very pleased with that. I took my time getting brave enough to go say hi, which I don't know why I still do because Tamara is always so kind to me when I see her. Last night was no exception :) We chatted a bit as she got ready to leave and then Nomi and I bailed as well because we both were tired (I swear I've gotten old somehow in the past few years lol)

We actually ended up on the same streetcar with these students from Humber who think they are comedians but who really just aren't funny at all. We've ridden with them before, it's an annoying ride. This time at least we knew enough to sit as far out of hearing range as we could manage lol.

I just got home from seeing Tamara Podemski in concert :) I am so glad I made myself go, totally worth it :) Also so glad that Nic could come with me and could put up with my being freaked out to be there for the first part of the night lol.

The concert was fabulous, all three acts were great. Perhaps it's time to start finding some more Native music stations because it's great music and isn't the overplayed mainstream crap I hear everywhere else...

Nomi, Tamara's CDs were on sale so I bought you one, don't order one in the meantime :)

Now I'm crazy amounts of tired and so must be off to bed in order to make it through work tomorrow.
