Monday in NYC
Monday I woke up early when Julie and Ava got up but I lazed around for a bit, repacked most of my stuff, watched some crappy tv and then headed out on my way. I went to Central park to start my day. Hit many of the random tourist destinations, took photos, and enjoyed my walk. After the park I went to F.A.O Schwartz and picked up a surprise for my brother and took pictures of the awesome displays they had. Then I went down to the Disney store where I bought a Mary Poppins shirt for me and a Pirates of the Caribbean button for my mom, I did a quick breeze through of the Lindt store for chocolate goodies for a few people and then went on my way to the Strand bookstore.
I’ve wanted to go to the Strand for the past few trips to NYC and I always keep missing it. I’m SO glad I made it there this time, 18 miles of books! I was in book geek heaven. I browsed through the $1 books outside and found 4 of them that I wanted and then went in. The store is overwhelming. I started trying to just randomly browse but it’s too big for that so I looked for the Tracy Chevallier books that Ava had recommended to me and found them, picked up 2 of the 3 they had and then went to the children’s book section. This is dangerous territory for me, I could have maxed out both credit cards, but I behaved. I bought 2 new Oz books (Emerald Wand of Oz and Trouble Under Oz) that look like they’ll be delightful, and I found a couple of other books that I had to have right then and figure I’ll just keep going back there now that I’ve found it. I also picked up a tote bag which fit all of my new books quite nicely. I did pretty well, only 3 of the books were hardcover ;)
After the Strand I met up with Ava and then Julie for dinner and I took them out to The Chat and Chew which makes really nice home cooking style food and makes something called a ‘Coca Cola Cake” which is a chocolate cake and I think they use the coke when mixing the batter so it’s nice and fluffy, it doesn’t taste like Coke though, just like really good chocolate cake.
We went back to the apartment after dinner and had a fairly early night. Julie showed me the video of some of the How I Met Your Mother cast doing ‘Confrontation’ from Les Mis which is awesome. So I will leave you with that: click to watch.
