elizalavelle: (Serenity fun m/i dance)
I've had such a fun weekend! Hanging out with Jo yesterday and then today I met up with [livejournal.com profile] star_material for lunch and it's so nice to meet up with LJ friends :) Also it's fun to have another person to gush about all things VM related lol. And soon Firefly/Serenity ;)

Oh I'm going to start doing some friends only posts to give away my stuff as I get closer to moving (starting tonight) so be sure to sign in. I have SO much stuff that I just can't move and I'm already going to need to get storage space for my books, that's my luxury, everything else must go :)

Office work is making me crave excercise lately. That's my goal for after moving, at least buy some work out DVDs and get on that. I'm not a gym person but I need to be moving more than I am now. Walking is great and I've been totally on track with that this past week :)

It's also getting to be yardsale season. I'm looking out for fun apartment things. Mostly storage space for books and dvds. Thus far I've just seen people selling a lot of kids stuff, toys and clothes. Not so much for me. Viv when's the big sale on your street? I liked that one. Too bad you're not selling your old furniture this year lol.

Nomi came to town this weekend so we could wander through our soon-to-be new neighbourhood and check out where we might want to move to. We have it narrowed down a lot which is wonderful :)

Friday night when Nomi got in we went to the movies, and it is HARD to find a movie that is not Mission Impossible 3 especially for a later show, bah. But we ended up seeing Friends With Money which was quite good. Oh and before it was saw the trailer for A Prarie Home Companion which looks good EXCEPT for that Lindsay Lohan somehow ended up in a decent movie. Well I enjoyed Mean Girls and apparently Freaky Friday is fun... but I think that's more the other cast than her, so hopefully the rest of the amazing cast can outshine her because the movie did look fun.

Anyways then Saturday we walked ALL over Etobicoke. I think we were there for almost 4 hours. Some parts are pretty nice, some are very very sketchy lol. We have figured out some good possible neighbourhoods though :) I did like it, I think that's about as far from the city core as I'd like to go though, I'm a city girl through and through.

We ended up with a quick stop by Vortex where we both found Mother's Day presents *yay* I got my mom the dvd set of 21 Jump Street hee :) I also found season 4 of Little House on the Prarie which I had to buy. I loved that show and the books :) Much fun, I love having all of these old shows being brought out on DVD.

I also am consistantly loving the music on Grey's Anatomy, that music person rocks. I also really want to know what the song was at the end of the O.C. this week... I saw the last few minutes and the song was good :)

I didn't do a whole lot this weekend. But I did go out to the movies where Ashley and I saw The Inside Man which was better than I'd been expecting. At least the twist kept me fooled until a few minutes before it was revealed :) Good job for them because usually I guess much faster :)

Then I got to see Ash's new apartment and visited with her roommates who both seem nice. Well I already knew one of them but the other was new to me :) They went out to grab some Wendy's food and I didn't feel like fast food so I ended up just chilling at their place for a bit, when I discovered that Scream was on The WB so we watched that (when they got back.) Of course since it was the WB all of the good stuff was edited out, ironic given Billy's opening speech about watching the Exorcist on tv. It didn't matter much, I have that movie memorized so I just filled in the blanks. Also we got a little high which was nice and relaxing... although I was a little paranoid on my way home... meh, this is what I get for watching scary movies then walking home at night.

Anyways then I ended up flipping between 2 movies when I got home. The Sphere and At First Sight before I went to sleep. So I had a 4 movie night, crazy! I also covered a wide range of genre's.

This weekend I also

- got my hair cut :)
- bought my new bus pass
- walked all over
- did not shop :)
- had a yummy falafal pita (although Viv you're right the Pita Pit ones are not as good at Pita To Go's ones were.
- made many Veronica Mars icons (I'll post 'em before I go to work tomorrow)

Bedtime now.
elizalavelle: (Heathers change your world)
Well today was fun :) As I was looking through my DVDs to find one to bring to Nicole's house I stumbled across the Kathleen Edwards cd Back To Me which I did not know that I had but it must have been in one of the bunches of cds that my dad brough home, so yay, fun streetcar listening material. So my newfound music and I went downtown and met up with Nic and then we went and bought our tickets to tonight's Ember Swift show and I managed to not buy a DVD while in Sunrise, this is impressive for me lol.

Then we went for coffee and then a trip to the art store where I picked up a fun indipendant comic called retales hehe tales of the retail world. Clearly it's going to be amusing.

Then we picked up dinner (mmmm sushi) and went back to Nic's place and watched Saved! because that movie is just endlessly amusing. And Macaulay Culkin grew on her too, clearly that was a great role choice for him.

Then onto the Ember Swift show which was SO great! I saw her play.... last summer I think it was.... it was still warm out whenever it was... anyways it was a while ago. I remembered it being an awesome show but not much beyond that. This second show reinforces that awesomeness. Live she and her band are just so amazing. If you ever see that she's touring near to you (and people in the US, she goes there a LOT) it's totally worth it to check her out. For now check out emberswift.com. Her new album is called The Dirty Pulse and I just started to listen to it on my streetcar ride home (which was super fast randomly, like less time to come across town than to walk home from the streetcar stop!) and I think it really captures a lot of what comes through live. Initially I'd give it an 8/10, saving those extra two points for the live show, because no matter how much you rock in the studio, if you perform really well live the live show is always better.

And once again the Canadian music scene is such a small world! We saw Michael Shipley there who we did the postering promotion with back in December... and also Tod who did the sound for Sarah Slean on her last tour.... and there must have been two sound guys working because Ember Swift thanked "Doug" the sound guy which was momentarily highly confusing.

and as a follow up to that random thing I said a few days ago about crossing a big item off of my list of things to do before I turned 25... it was sending an email out that I should have sent ages ago.... and all backstory aside, I got my response today and it was 100% better than I'd been afraid of getting. I'm a little in shock but the good kind.

and I was going to leave you with Ember Swift lyrics but I'll save that post for tomorrow...
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean LM dance)
Oh random TO adventures, it feels like summer already when I start having these :) Viv and Mike are in town for the weekend and had their rental car with them so we drove all over today. We checked out surfboard stuff. I cannot wait to try surfing this summer. I will totally never even make it up on a board but still, it'll be amusing. Then we did a little more wandering around, checked out a crazy busy Winners and then drove to an Old Navy.

Viv got awesome new clothes and sandles and more and B dared to venture into the LCBO in Scarbourough lol The only other memory of that place that I have is having to hop a fence and some train tracks I believe after a random party out there to catch my bus home. I have no idea whose party this was even...

Viv had her great music going as usual which this summer includes some Sarah Slean :) *yay* and she's totally right, people do stare at you if you're driving around blaring Slean music. Meh.

Oh and I picked up the dvds of 'Closer' and 'The United States of Leland' and new headphones since my old ones just broke and it's a long commute every day with no music.
elizalavelle: (Violet Pickles)
I walked all over the city today :) My legs and feet are SO tired but I feel great :) The weather was just perfect so I walked downtown to meet Nicole for coffee and since it was warm we got ours to go. I tried one of Second Cup's frozen hot chocolates (not Serendepity but I've never tried one anywhere before so I figured I'd try them here then compare at Serendepity whenever I get there) and they are tres yummy.

We ended up feeding a lot of birds, cute little sparrows, then a starling, then something similar to a starling but louder... then pigeons.. then a squirrel came... it was like a little woodland scene (well it was until the pigeons.)

Then we wandered to a great furniture place on Jarvis... I liked it, I'll have to wander back when it's time for me to furnish my bedroom, i.e. buy a bed lol. Because the Ikea put it together yourself approach daunts me. I can do it but their instructions make me want to cry. LisaLisa do you remember me putting together that closet thing? Yeah it's not pretty when I'm in the middle of those projects.

Then from there we wandered to the Blockbuster on Spadina (I have a weakness for DVDs what can I say lol) and I found 'Slap Her She's French'... but the renamed and horribly horribly repackaged version which is now called 'She Gets What She Wants.' It's not a stellar movie by any means but it's funny and I can still remember seeing the trailer for it (twice!) with Viv. I also picked up 'My Date With Drew' which I feel I must watch this week. Tanya recommended it to me and I just like the premise of making this random dream come true. How great that things like that can happen if you work for them!

Then I walked home. Much walking, but I liked it, I ended up wandering passed the store where (almost a year ago now) I bought the 'Big Daddy' cookie when waiting to get inside the Phoenix for the Slean show. I was too tired by then to check on their cookie status, I have no idea if they even make those anymore. But they were yummy and funny as hell.
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean drowsy contemplation)
I am the coolest kid ever. I managed to get a hole in the bum of my pants on Tuesday... I think it was in the afternoon, lol I hope it was at least. I will miss working in a clothing store for the reason that I can buy new clothes very quickly when I need to. I must quote Phoebe "I need to live in a world where I can spill" seriously, I have no idea how I get so messy... I now have chocolate on my new winter coat... that one's not entirely my fault, but still, it's there.

Nomi is coming to TO this weekend but I'm missing seeing her. I'm SO tired this week and she's only just passing through to look at her new school and then heading straight home. We'll have to set a weekend to go explore our new neighbourhood sometime soonish. Then begins the apartment hunt.

And in other news I finally got my check from the a.s. to clear today. I spent my entire break between jobs, commuting-at the bank-commuting. But the money is now actually in my account so tomorrow when the gallery deposits my cheque everything is good. I was having a minor freak out about that today lol. Honestly, if that darn cheque hadn't have been released on time then technically I'd have stolen a painting. Not something I really would like to do in my life. I was working out the time to get the painting back to the gallery, make out a new cheque, and then pick it up again. Too much planning lol.

Anyways I should be off to bed. Too much commuting and balancing two jobs... it makes me sleepy.
elizalavelle: (Lilly joy)
eek, I'm posting this one one day late, SORRY

But HAPPY BIRTHDAY AVA!

I hope that your weekend rocked and that you were spoiled :)
elizalavelle: (Kaylee the hell with that)
How do I always get myself into these random adventures? Seriously!

Today I dropped by Neal's place and then we headed to the Spin Gallery to pick up our paintings (*yay*) Mine had made it's trip back from B.C. (thanks Joel :) ) and Neal's was just all paid for. All was good.

We got our paintings, mine was the right one all of the way back from BC! I bought my second one and got a nice deal on it AND they let me take it home today even though it's not paid for until next week. Very sweet. We chat for a bit then head back to Neal's place so I can pick up some records he wanted me to donate to Value Village for him. On our way up Church St. Neal remembers his friend has just moved into a building there so he calls, his friend is in and we go to stop by for a few minutes...

Now the building is under construction still. The elevator was still just plywood walls, it ran, and looked safe, just it wasn't finished yet. People just started moving into the lower floors, upper floors are still all uninhabitable. His friend lived on the second floor, and we go to take the elevator up (which sounds lazy but I didn't see a stairway... and I walk everywhere else these days lol) and then the elevator does not let us off at the second floor.... we were stopped there for quite some time but the door wouldn't open at all. Which was funny, until it lasted more than a minute... then not so much with the funny. It was great that Neal is totally not one to panic because being stuck in an elevator isn't bad for me, but when there might be a chance of dropping, that's when I start to freak out.

We shall backtrack for a moment to mention that my parents talked me into riding that Tower of Terror ride in MGM studios by telling me that for sure it wouldn't drop the whole 13 stories, it would just be mostly simulation. Lies, all lies. I was so terrified of dropping after that ride that A. I made everyone spend a good hour out of the day just sitting down until I could feel my legs again, and B. I refused to go on Splash Mountain the next day regardless of the fact that I love the Briar Rabbit stories. I do not like the idea of dropping in an elevator at all. This is up there in my hysterical fears, along with clowns, only this one is much more sensible.

So back to present day, Neal and myself, stuck in the elevator, which suddenly starts lurching every few minutes and when it does the display reads that we've suddenly gone up 3-4 floors each time. So we hit the help button, had a very helpful lady who said she was sending someone right away.... We're waiting, and lurching and according to the display still going higher. Neal insisted that we weren't going up at all. I insisted that we were. By this time I was sitting on the floor, with my Slean art work in my lap and bracing my arms on either side of the elevator. Totally not liking the little lurches that are going on.. oh and the beeping, it was beeping at us too.

There are 28 floors plus the Penthouse floor in this building... so by the time we hit 20 I'm fully freaked out as to what happens when we get to the top.... so we called the help person again, and got a guy who was not so helpful. He didn't even know what city we were in. As we were giving him the info the doors opened finally and we just booked it off of the elevator, only to realize we'd gone all of the way up to the Penthouse floor! 29 freaking stories up! The moral of the story: Elizabeth knows when the elevator is moving, also don't ride in sketchy looking elevators.

Neal had cell service up there at least so we admired the view (beautiful, but oh so high up and so scary to think of dropping from there!) and he called his friend to let him know what had happened and that we'd be taking the stairs down. We did wander around a little just to see what it was like up there... it's still very much a construction site. Really really dusty and messy. However the apartments downstairs were very nice and his friend was great and gave me a drink so I calmed down a little. I still feel a little panic-y now but all is well. We are all home safely. I have my two beautiful paintings, and I survive to start my new job tomorrow :)

But seriously, how do I manage to get into these situations? I now really do understand why my favourite prof in LU would consistently be amused my my random adventures.

**eta** On our way out we did not take the elevator... and as a consiquence ended up having to go out this side door (the doors to the lobby were locked... so I guess we coudln't have taken the stairs up anyway) and ended up trapped in a construction site. I was about to attempt climbing over the fence when the building security pointed us to a fairly hidden exit lol. Where was he when we got stuck in the elevator and then ended up on the top floor of his building I do not know LOL.
elizalavelle: (SNL NP don't sleep)
I did manage to get a hold of LisaLisa so I got to visit with my old roomie today! yay. Her boyfriend (not yet boyfriend? I dunno, awesome guy just the same) took us out for breakfast :) I like him already ;) Actually no, he was a really great guy. Also I got to meet Caitlin too so much fun.

And totally off topic but I love the walk in clinic that my doctors office does. No wait, even on Saturday morning which you'd think would be more crazy, no wait.

Tomorrow I have coffee with Nicole... oh and I get to sleep in because I didn't get to do that today and I'm sooooooo tired. So I'm going to watch the Skeleton Key and scare myself awake since I've not yet seen that one.
elizalavelle: (Dick scary)
LisaLisa's phone isn't working :S So I was supposed to call her and meet up with her tomorrow morning but it seems her phone has no service in TO or something... so I guess that's out unless she brought my number with her... le boo.

I watched Garden State tonight FINALLY. Actually part of the reason I'd not run out to see it was that I'd heard a lot of people saying that guys tended to love the movie while a lot of girls just thought it was alright. It was actually pretty darn good. Visually stunning. Zach Braff is a damn good director....writer and actor lol. Part of the plot seemed to be that guy mistake of thinking the girl wants you to be in love with them super fast, almost counteracting the old steriotype of the girl always being in love and the guy being indifferent. Yeah, if after 4 days someone said they loved me, I'd run. But other than that, I really liked the film. Also, that soundtrack is good music.
elizalavelle: (lucky me)
Squee for new books! My dad and I dropped by Value Village after dinner tonight and I came across the Walt Disney Parade of Fun, Fact, Fantasy & Fiction. In the box still and everything! They're from 1970 and so for kids books they're in quite good condition! My dad bought them for me and everything so that was sweet :) I can't find a good online picture of them but they're in two ebay auctions if that end over the next day or so: here, in their box and here without it.

Not so sweet, tomorrow I must pay bills, I was trying to hold out until my pay came in from my autoshow job but no such luck.

However life is of the good, LisaLisa is in town for a couple of days (she's at the Coldplay concert tonight) so I think I get to do brunch with her or something on Saturday. Much yay :)
elizalavelle: (Lilly joy)
*squee*

I just got a roommate! As of next August Naomi is moving to TO! Life is making me smiley tonight :)

Now I just need a better job and we must find an apartment... details details....
elizalavelle: (Baroness stressed out)
Job hunting is depressing me, I sent out another slew of resumes tonight. I just look at my experience and I don't have enough of what I want on there, but I need jobs to get more experience... life is a catch 22 some days.

It will work out eventually I know but I'd like eventually to start hurrying up. I want to move out into a place of my own. I want to not be living in a state of being broke despite the fact I'm working. I want the freedom that comes along with that.

I also want to call up Viv and have a good 1am ranting session lol but I'm trying to not use up all of the long distance minutes this month... must be good. Also must not interrupt her school work lol.
elizalavelle: (VM sick of haituses)
Oh my goodness, is Veronica Mars back this week?! I think it's this week... phew :) This is the last chance to use this fun icon then. Goodbye hiatus icon :D While I dont think they should have taken the time off during sweeps (unless they've been guaranteed a third season) I do think that running the rest of the season with no reruns will work in their favour. They're getting to the big episodes that usually work best when viewed one right after the other.

I went out for coffee with Ashley today, who I realize I've not seen in forever again. Silly getting busy and also me becoming somewhat hermit like when it's cold lol. However next week we have plans to see V for Vendetta so that shall be cool :) It makes me feel old to hear about what people from highschool are up to now. I really am not in touch with many people from R.C.I anymore. I dunno, some people keep all of their friends forever and I have some great friends who I've known for years and years but there are a lot of people who I knew in classes etc and they're great people but I didn't have much in common with them outside of courses etc.

Hmmm I want dinner now, j'ai faim.
elizalavelle: (Lilly joy)
What a great day.

I met up with Neal and we wandered to Value Village to drop off some stuff for him and I randomly found a new Columbia wintercoat for me for next year (since my current one is about 2 sizes too big) and then a RENT movie poster that cost .99cents! So that was fun. Then we ended up walking to Riverdale Farm because he hadn't seen it, and I love it there. Since it was the first spring feeling day in a while there were lots of little kids there, so adorable! As for animals there were the cutest pigs which were like a rust colour, and twin baby cows and some very roly poly sheeps! Also a huge turkey who scared me. That's one animal I do not want to take home.

From there we wandered for coffee and I remembered that place Mr. de Vries used to recommend and it wasn't too far so we went there and who did I see but Mr. de Vries! So random but good. And then Neal and I had our coffee, chatted some and then I walked home from there. I think I spent at least 2 hours walking today, very nice :) Toronto is such a great walking city once you get going. This month my lack of metropass has made me walk more on the weekends, and I've been keeping up with getting off of the streetcar early so I can walk for about 20 minutes on my way home. All good. Actually Neal observed that I could walk to his place without too much trouble. I think as the weather gets nicer I'm going to try that.

Oh back to the randomness, we also saw one of the judges from Canadian Idol when we were out for coffee, Zach I believe his name is.... I dunno. It was very random, especially as it seemed he was just wandering around the place, and outside, and back in again... very random.

Dinnertime soon :)
elizalavelle: (Black Widow cameo end)
a little self promotion, for those who don't usually check out my icon journal, I made icons of the Natalie Portman rap from SNL last week. They are here.

Tomorrow, well later today, Neal and I are heading out for coffee... but I just saw Cam's littleslean post about Sarah having a photograph on display at the Spin Gallery just for yesterday and today... I'm thinking perhaps I'll see if Neal wants to go to that as well as for coffee... I have to ask about the Slean painting anyways :)

My alarm didn't go off this morning and as I was up late last night talking to Viv I was very close to being late for work. Thankfully I can get ready super quickly. However as it's late again and for sure It'll be after 3 when I get to bed I'll have to double check on what's wrong with my alarm (my guess is that I just set it totally wrong because I'm just that special) or else I'll be late meeting Neal and all he has to go on is my shabby directions and I think I was confusing lol.
elizalavelle: (Oz loyalty)
Viv, random observation for you, there are a LOT of law offices hiring right now for administrative jobs...

go here: http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Intro_en.asp

or not. But if you're looking, there are lots.
elizalavelle: (VM hate job)
MerClaire is coming to visit today and I'm missing it. :( Clearly I'm just going to have to travel to the East Coast as soon as I get a little extra cash. I have my day off tomorrow so it didn't quite work... le boo. However work is still fun. I'm being amused because now everyone will make the smalltalk along the lines of "what's new with you" and really... nothing is new, the 12 hour days pretty much keep everyone doing the same thing over and over lol But today I use my I hate my job icon NOT because I hate the actual job (that part is fun) but because I'm sad I'm missing out on visiting with Mer when I haven't seen her in years.

I managed to dream an entire plot for a silly teen movie last night. Seriously, beginning to end I invented one. My brain is so weird some nights.
elizalavelle: (Vday cupid)
Last night Jim and I went out to eat at East, it's run by the same people who run the Spring Rolls restaurants. It was tres yummy and sort of reminded me of a scaled down Tao. Which means, Viv, we're going. It can be a pre Tao adventure for you :)

Then we ran into Yen on the streetcar on the way to Wanderlust. I'll have a whole review of that up. I'm just working on making sure I get some poem titles correct... Then you all get subjected to one of my writeups.... done so that I can remember things :)

In the meanwhile, Happy Valentines day to them that like the holiday. Really I'm posting to use one of [livejournal.com profile] colorfilter's icons made for today.

C'est tout for now.
