elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean Orphan Music)
So the Sarah Slean album Orphan Music has been released :) It's fabulous! I went out yesterday to pick it up after work with Tashia (who mainly came along to see if I'd totally freak out when I saw my photos somewhere in the album art work lol.) I picked up my copy in HMV and was saddened to see it wasn't on the new release shelf... hello we're in Canada, let's promote some CANADIAN musicians.... ones who aren't Avril Lavigne. Anyways, I got the album, opened it as Tash was buying whatever CD she got, and had some in store squeeing when I saw one of my pictures is on the cover of the cd booklet! I was beyond thrilled! I still am! I figured the pictures of mine that were used would be tucked away inside. Joy! Joy! Joy!

(pictures of the album art at the end of this post)

The album itself is wonderful. One of the songs (When Another Midnight from the Harboufront shows) didn't make it on here but SO much other stuff did. On the way home I was listening to it and could not stop smiling. The live version of The Score gave me giggles on the streetcar (just the beginning part of it... it's all in the cackle!) I also loved the little bits of dialoge which were left in there from the shows. I was also so glad that not only did we get the live Blue Spruce stuff (amazing!) but we also have strings verisons of Weight, Pilgrim and Lucky me(!) from the DNA studio. And two new to me songs: Wilderness and Little London Night. What struck me the most is here one can directly hear the comparison between studio Slean and live Slean. Now you can tell what a treat it is to see her live! She just shines on a stage. Oh and at the Harbourfront recordings I can so hear Neal a few times lol, that's so fun!

Now onto the pic spam

all behind the cut of course :) )

*squee*

Already such a good weekend! I went to my parents place last night (which did take forever, the TTC is not so good this weekend) and had a lovely home cooked meal, got to see Hocus Pocus on tv and generally had a nice relaxing evening. Then today I picked up the finishing touches for my halloween costume, bought Pillsbury cookies for my work party on Tuesday, and totally behaved myself and didn't buy lots of extra crap. So when my brother suggested a Value Villiage trip I figured I could go quickly and see if there was anything really fun there.

So I'm browsing through their CD section and what first caught my eye was Kristen Bell-Murray's cd. She's a friend of Nomi's so I thought I should give that one a good home. Then I'm looking more and saw a Cheap Suits cd, much fun as I'd seen then in highschool and always regretted not picking up the cd. Alas it was not to be because the case was empty (I hate that.) I decided to try my luck searching through the shelves to see if anyone just took the cd out and left it lying around or on another case... and came across some comedy duo's case which was missing the front cover, "aha" I think, something could be in here. So I pulled it off of the top of the shelf and peeked in to see a copy of the Black Widow DVD! This is the movie Sarah Slean was in last winter which, as of yet, is not out on DVD at all. Much joy and running around the store ensued :)

I just did a quick look over the disc and it appears to be working just fine, I'm having a fabulously happy fangirl moment, I know what my Sunday viewing is consisting of :)

Why is Shoshawna Bean in the TO Wicked cast?

However I *knew* there had to have been a reason that I didn't buy my tickets a year early when Mirvish put them on sale ;) Perhaps she's improved greatly, still, glad to not be out that $100.

In other news I dreamt of Sarah Slean concerts all night. Some 4 night in a row series of concerts that appeared to be taking place at Disney World but it didn't look like Disney but they kept being mention of trying to see the 3pm parade. No clue what was going on. However, *yay* concerts ;)

And now it's time for work :) So much to do today! But Delly's coming over for some Grey's tonight so that's awesome :D

So the cover to the new Sarah Slean album is up on www.sarahslean.com and my friend Jarita got the cover! It's one of her photos! I'm SO happy for her and SO glad that a huge fan has their picture on the actual album cover!

Here is the cover picture we have so far:

and Jarita's original: http://sarahslean.com/livephotos/Jarita_07.jpg

It's such a beautiful shot, she takes some fantastic pictures :) I'm so excited to see what other pictures were chosen!

20 days until the album is released. The tracklist is up as well:

1. Lucky Me

2. Somebody’s Arms

3. Eliot (with Blue Spruce Quartet)

4. Mary

5. Last Year’s War (with Blue Spruce Quartet)

6. Out In The Park

7. Pilgrim

8. Narcolepsy Weed (with Blue Spruce Quartet)

9. The Score

10. Weight (DNA Studio)

11. Wilderness (Kensaltown Studios)

12. Little London (Kensaltown Studios)

13. California (DNA Studio)

14. Lucky Me (DNA Studio)

15. Pilgrim (DNA Studio)

Yes I didn't get When Another Midnight to play with for my Serenity video idea, so I'm scrapping that one and using Last Year's War for a Mal/Inara vid (yes I am a geek but I have fun playing with these things) I was also surprised to see that in the end I Know didn't end up on the album (sorry Viv... bet you're VERY glad you came out to both shows now aren't you? ;) ) But I'm glad to see that we're getting some great songs from the Harbourfront shows and lots of different material :)

Also to wrap up my fangirling promotion post, there will be a Canadian tour in late November! WOOT! And as my NYC trip had to be cancelled I now can move a few vacation days around to suit the tour dates :)

I am a happy fangirl :)

Full out SQUEE!

While life is insanely busy and getting busier by the day, there are pockets of joy that keep popping up. Currently in Slean mode:

1. Warner has bought two of my photos of Sarah Slean for use on her upcoming album! I have no idea if they'll make the final edit, but as the album is out in less than a month I don't have too long to be curious about it :)

2. The new live (and Bside) Sarah Slean album, Orphan Music, is coming out on Hallowe'en. I love Hallowe'en and last years' got to be a Slean holiday (in NYC no less!) and apparently so does this year!) No complaints here :)

3. I have tickets to this show in the spring: http://littleslean.blogspot.com/2006/10/slean-tickets-on-sale-toronto-art-of.html To anyone who is going to order tickets. Harbourfront is apparently saying that row 7 is the best available. That's not so. They have this deal with Ticketmaster which in the long run I think hurts the Harbourfront box office, but that's just my opinion. Anyways, Ticketmaster has the rights to sell those first few rows of tickets when sales go online. However if you talk nicely to the box office people and let them know that you're fairly sure that there are better seats available then you should be able to swing a better seat. If anyone remembers reading my drama with getting tickets from this venue last winter it's exactly the same thing. I really did love the theatre but their ticket sale policy is definitely not my favourite.

But back to the good, add to this crazy fun that it's a lovely holiday weekend. I had a great homecooked meal and got a massage for my strained neck, and I plan to sleep in like woah tomorrow. It's all good :)
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean - joy in the park)
A handfull of pictures from the Sarah Slean concert (I didn't use a flash so a lot of mine turned out blurry, hence I'm only posting the good ones)

I put my head back where it belongs up there in the clouds )
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean website splash)
Okay, and now it's time for the looooooooooooong review of the Sarah Slean concert last night.

...rage my darling rage... )
elizalavelle: (new dress)
I'm going to have my review of the Sarah Slean concert after work tonight.

But this is my preliminary post to firstly say a HUGE thank you again to Cameron for driving Andrea and I there and back, especially back because he had work very early this morning and still waited until the end to talk to Sarah and I thought we'd have been getting out of there around 11 and really it was around 12 so eep, but it turned out okay.

Show was amazing amazing amazing! One new song that is absolutely beautiful and I hope is on the new album. Lots of reworked favourites. *sigh* I am a happy Passioneer :)

...who now must hurry up and get ready for work!

(also a huge thank you to my boss for letting me push my schedule back an hour so I could attempt to get a regular amount of sleep :)
elizalavelle: (VM Lilly dreams on)
Okay I just had the craziest dream (it is now 7am and I must type this up before I go back to bed because it was all too random)

Seriously, WTF? )
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean website splash)
Yeah so the Sarah Slean concert that I've been waiting months for... cancelled :(

http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/2006/08/15/1757274-sun.html

FUCK

(and it's just outside of the allowance for cancelling the hotel room so my card is so getting charged)

I am not a happy camper at all.

I'm keeping my vacation days I booked off from work, I'm going to be positively grumpy, not good working mood.

If I was a tad younger and more stupid I'd be planning to run off to France for the show Sarah has there in Sept. Who am I kidding, I'd so go now if I could but I don't want to use all of my vacation days/money for France and miss out on NYC this December and probably not be able to afford any random Canadian shows that come along and you can bet after this I will go to the next one wherever it may be. I clearly should have gone to Huntsville.

FUCK!
elizalavelle: (watch VM)
hee we have a kitty :)

Nomi and Zion moved in this weekend. By late last night Zion was starting to calm down a lot and was very interested in looking out of the window :) He also loves to hide out under my bed hee.

I've also started Nomi on the goodness that is Veronica Mars, we'll be playing catch up before Season 3 :) We just did the first two episodes last night, *sigh* I love this show. Although the pilot is just exposition like woah, it's necessary because you dive right into two season story arcs and a MOTW and you know meeting the characters. Helluva challenge, well met Rob Thomas. Also Nomi is going it spoiler free for the first two seasons, impressive, and also fun :)

Hmm now I must be off to work, so much to do before the SARAH SLEAN CONCERT on Thursday :D
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean LM dance)
I'm heading to my parents house for tonight and tomorrow... back here sometime on Sunday and when I get back my roomie and her kitty will be here :) Smashing :D

I don't think I'll be online much until Saturday but I'll check in to my flist sometime this weekend for sure :)

(less than 1 week until the Sarah Slean concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean look at you)
*yay* The new Sarah Slean website is up! SarahSlean.com go look at how amazing it is! I'm biased, they used some of my most favourite colours for their backgrounds. I actually have a shirt that now pretty much exactly matches the site. So random!

I am so tired, must crash. I stayed up to see the site go live and I walked so much today that I've been ready to drop since about 9pm. And tomorrow is supposed to be busy again and now with a new site you know that I want to icon like woah. But for now there is much sleep to be had :)
elizalavelle: (PotC kisses)
hee it's Pirates this weekend! I have my ticket already for Saturday night :D Now I just have to stay unspoiled until then. And then in just a couple of weeks Clerks 2 comes out :D Clearly this is a fun movie month.

August shall be an entertaining month as well I think, Slean concert and SFX :) I have my tickets to both of those stuck to my walls (a trick from residence) so I wont lose them. I already thought I'd lost the Slean ticket once. That would have sucked.

I REALLY need to clean/pack. I am planning to move some stuff on Sunday so Saturday I'm going to pack up as much as I can to trek over... not forgetting that we paint the following weekend so I can't put a lot in my room because then I'll just have to move it out and back in.

I should go and get ready for work, yay Friday!
elizalavelle: (LM night sky)
Well, I've been having fun looking up 90210 stuff on youtube.com. I'm going to have to buy those dvds eventually. Hello Ebay :) I cannot believe that the studio didn't get them out faster. They're losing so much money by not buying the rights to the songs that they need. Also how addictive is youtube once you get going on that site. I've been watching fun clips like woah.

Sarah Slean has added another show this summer, July 19th in Huntsville. It's a Wednesday and out of town so that's totally out of the question for me. I'm still hoping that we get a random TO show this summer as well :)

It's the Serenity charity screening in TO this Saturday! (www.canadianbrowncoats.com) I can't wait to see it on the big screen again! I have no brown coat... but perhaps I'll go for my brown sweater or something, must be in theme somewhat.

I think that's it for tonight, I'm off to freak myself out with some Xfiles and then go to sleep. Although last night was the ep Paper Hearts and I think that was a two parter that was more sweet than scary...
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean sailing on a sunrise)
I bought a cute little outfit today.... possibly for the Slean show in August.... but there are still two months to go before that show so I'm sure that I'll go through a multitude of wardrobe choices before deciding :)

It was father's day today :) Yay for Dads everywhere :) I am very lucky to have a Dad who is supportive of me and of my crazy adventures lol. He was the one who first helped me get to NYC after my Mom had said there was "no way in hell a daughter of hers was going to that city" (in his defence he never knew she said that until after my trip was organized lol) but my point is that he always helps me out with those things which are important to me which my mother thinks are useless (hello Artshow anyone? ;) ) and he also has helped me to keep going through the tough times life brings. I'll stop now before I go all greeting card on you ;)

Random funny image of the weekend... Viv and I were walking back to her place at sometime after 10pm on Friday night and see this car parked with people in it. At first we though they were just hotboxing the car but then we realized it was these two middle-aged ladies sitting there and as we got closer we could hear they were blasting some gospel music. I guess they were rocking out in their own fashion, but I still had to giggle :)

Also apparently it's Christmas in June, I saw Home Alone on TV today.... well the end of it. LOVE that movie. And also I've been enjoying listening to What Child Is This by Sarah Slean.
elizalavelle: (VM once upon a time)
Oh what a great week this has turned into. Take that TTC strike, I knew there were good things to come after that :D So not only are we now 77 days from a Sarah Slean show in Canada :D but when I bounced downstairs to tell my brother that I was going to the concert he had a Pirates of the Carribbean 2 poster for me!!!! It's one of those double sided dealies, whole cast one one side, just Johnny Depp on the other (three guesses which side's going on display ;)

It turns out that he was able to snag two of them (one for me one for my mom) early at work last night. I have no idea when they get handed out ot kids, probably just before the movie comes out or on opening weekend like the Narnia ones were.... but at any rate, he was given a couple of them early so *yay*

And I added a PoTC2 countodown banner to my LJ profile today, you can get one for yourself: here.

....must get time off from work today. Well not today, but permission for the time in August.

*bounce*
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean France pic)
I just had to stop in the midst of my email checking to say SARAH SLEAN IS COMING BACK TO CANADA. Aug. 17th she's performing in London. I have my ticket now and I'm SO EXCITED. The credit card that I wasn't going to touch until it was paid off had to come into play.... but it's SO worth it!

Nomi I wasn't sure if you'd be in TO yet by then so I just ordered one ticket (also they're pricey this time out and I didn't want to risk getting stuck with extras that I couldn't sell) if you want to come grab a ticket and we can compare notes after the show :D

and of course this goes for anyone else, come come come! The more the merrier, and the more fun we can have finding a place to stay and partying in London!

hmmmmmm must book time off from work. Silly Thursday night show, who decided that. There will be some major begging tomorrow.

On the flip side, now that I have a job I can actually afford moments of crazyness like this unlike last time when the last Kingston trip almost bankrupted me and I ended up in debt to my dad with the December shows. This time it's much better :D
elizalavelle: (Sarah Slean drowsy contemplation)
I am the coolest kid ever. I managed to get a hole in the bum of my pants on Tuesday... I think it was in the afternoon, lol I hope it was at least. I will miss working in a clothing store for the reason that I can buy new clothes very quickly when I need to. I must quote Phoebe "I need to live in a world where I can spill" seriously, I have no idea how I get so messy... I now have chocolate on my new winter coat... that one's not entirely my fault, but still, it's there.

Nomi is coming to TO this weekend but I'm missing seeing her. I'm SO tired this week and she's only just passing through to look at her new school and then heading straight home. We'll have to set a weekend to go explore our new neighbourhood sometime soonish. Then begins the apartment hunt.

And in other news I finally got my check from the a.s. to clear today. I spent my entire break between jobs, commuting-at the bank-commuting. But the money is now actually in my account so tomorrow when the gallery deposits my cheque everything is good. I was having a minor freak out about that today lol. Honestly, if that darn cheque hadn't have been released on time then technically I'd have stolen a painting. Not something I really would like to do in my life. I was working out the time to get the painting back to the gallery, make out a new cheque, and then pick it up again. Too much planning lol.

Anyways I should be off to bed. Too much commuting and balancing two jobs... it makes me sleepy.
elizalavelle: (Kaylee the hell with that)
How do I always get myself into these random adventures? Seriously!

Today I dropped by Neal's place and then we headed to the Spin Gallery to pick up our paintings (*yay*) Mine had made it's trip back from B.C. (thanks Joel :) ) and Neal's was just all paid for. All was good.

We got our paintings, mine was the right one all of the way back from BC! I bought my second one and got a nice deal on it AND they let me take it home today even though it's not paid for until next week. Very sweet. We chat for a bit then head back to Neal's place so I can pick up some records he wanted me to donate to Value Village for him. On our way up Church St. Neal remembers his friend has just moved into a building there so he calls, his friend is in and we go to stop by for a few minutes...

Now the building is under construction still. The elevator was still just plywood walls, it ran, and looked safe, just it wasn't finished yet. People just started moving into the lower floors, upper floors are still all uninhabitable. His friend lived on the second floor, and we go to take the elevator up (which sounds lazy but I didn't see a stairway... and I walk everywhere else these days lol) and then the elevator does not let us off at the second floor.... we were stopped there for quite some time but the door wouldn't open at all. Which was funny, until it lasted more than a minute... then not so much with the funny. It was great that Neal is totally not one to panic because being stuck in an elevator isn't bad for me, but when there might be a chance of dropping, that's when I start to freak out.

We shall backtrack for a moment to mention that my parents talked me into riding that Tower of Terror ride in MGM studios by telling me that for sure it wouldn't drop the whole 13 stories, it would just be mostly simulation. Lies, all lies. I was so terrified of dropping after that ride that A. I made everyone spend a good hour out of the day just sitting down until I could feel my legs again, and B. I refused to go on Splash Mountain the next day regardless of the fact that I love the Briar Rabbit stories. I do not like the idea of dropping in an elevator at all. This is up there in my hysterical fears, along with clowns, only this one is much more sensible.

So back to present day, Neal and myself, stuck in the elevator, which suddenly starts lurching every few minutes and when it does the display reads that we've suddenly gone up 3-4 floors each time. So we hit the help button, had a very helpful lady who said she was sending someone right away.... We're waiting, and lurching and according to the display still going higher. Neal insisted that we weren't going up at all. I insisted that we were. By this time I was sitting on the floor, with my Slean art work in my lap and bracing my arms on either side of the elevator. Totally not liking the little lurches that are going on.. oh and the beeping, it was beeping at us too.

There are 28 floors plus the Penthouse floor in this building... so by the time we hit 20 I'm fully freaked out as to what happens when we get to the top.... so we called the help person again, and got a guy who was not so helpful. He didn't even know what city we were in. As we were giving him the info the doors opened finally and we just booked it off of the elevator, only to realize we'd gone all of the way up to the Penthouse floor! 29 freaking stories up! The moral of the story: Elizabeth knows when the elevator is moving, also don't ride in sketchy looking elevators.

Neal had cell service up there at least so we admired the view (beautiful, but oh so high up and so scary to think of dropping from there!) and he called his friend to let him know what had happened and that we'd be taking the stairs down. We did wander around a little just to see what it was like up there... it's still very much a construction site. Really really dusty and messy. However the apartments downstairs were very nice and his friend was great and gave me a drink so I calmed down a little. I still feel a little panic-y now but all is well. We are all home safely. I have my two beautiful paintings, and I survive to start my new job tomorrow :)

But seriously, how do I manage to get into these situations? I now really do understand why my favourite prof in LU would consistently be amused my my random adventures.

**eta** On our way out we did not take the elevator... and as a consiquence ended up having to go out this side door (the doors to the lobby were locked... so I guess we coudln't have taken the stairs up anyway) and ended up trapped in a construction site. I was about to attempt climbing over the fence when the building security pointed us to a fairly hidden exit lol. Where was he when we got stuck in the elevator and then ended up on the top floor of his building I do not know LOL.
