Life is getting busy but it's such a great week!

Today after work I picked up my Night Bugs poster (well two of them because of the doublesidedness) and then went to get copies of the posters that I made printed up on big glossy paper for Andrea and I.

Of course even though the photocopier at Staples was just fixed because it was leaving marks on the glossy prints (like the guy was in this morning to fix it) it still left white marks on the prints. It's as though the glossy stuff gets too hot and parts of it melt off as it's printing. Not aesthetically pleasing at all. However I got to yell at some guy there (not an employee, they rock there) This random guy had come over to photocopy some legal stuff 20 minutes before the law office closed and he kept complaining to me that it was taking too long and that he thought the guy who was working there wasn't doing his job when in fact he was doing about 6 jobs at once and from what I could see, was very on top of all of them. So then I told off the complaining guy. Seriously don't come in and give shit to someone who's making not a lot of money just because you screwed yourself over by leaving something important until the last minute. Then complainy guy forgot his wallet and I returned it, hence I am still a nice person but don't complain to someone who works in customer service about someone who's fucking serving you! I even told this guy when he started his complaining that I worked in customer service, he didn't get the hint.

But the posters still didn't print well :S

So I went to Kinkos but they have this deal where if you're having them print out something on order it has to cost more than 15$ SO now I'm getting extra posters made just to have mine by tomorrow. And most likely I'll be braving a snowstorm to pick them up lol. Crazy!

THEN tonight I saw Movin' Out which was lots of fun. I went with Kelly from work and her roommate Alana (who will be appearing in 'Hair' soon!) I'm not so much of a dance person so I'd have liked to see more of the band, especially the piano player/singer. It would have been neat to see the piano incorporated on the stage instead of above it. Also how very Cabaret was that set up? lol. But overall the show was fun. Great dancers (excepting the understudy for one of the leads who we named "the lug" because he just didn't seem graceful or like he was emoting through dance at all... which is sort of necessary in a dancer. Everyone else, fabulous!

And I finished up a few more icons when I got home. I so owed some for the WaT icontest I've been terrible at getting entries in on my weeks off. But I got some in and some more Buffy/Angel ones made. Go me :)

Tomorrow is the first of two Slean shows and I'm SO excited for them. Viv (are you reading LJ while you're home) I'll be getting there around 7-7:30 ish. I'll try to call you from work during the day to see if you and B want to come with Andrea and I on the ttc. We'll probably be subwaying it there.

I got the posters made for the postering day on Saturday :D It wasn't too expensive at all. And the girl printed the wrong poster in colour but I couldn't let her throw them out (it was my favourite poster afterall lol) so I said I'd buy them too and she only charged me .29 cents a copy for them! Yay :D It took a while because it appeared to be a project due date for a near by school and lots of people were printing up calandars and pamphlets etc but they all were talking about it being for a class project... but the posters look amazing, especially the colour ones :D

and I just had enough time to get home and change and eat quickly and then it was on to:

Flyer-ing Day 2

Today I had company for handing out flyers :D yay. Neal was in TO so we went flyer-ing together. This time I didn't even try to get past the mean usher lady (who is still shooting glares my way... although to be fair she glared and I just raised my eyebrows and smiled so that probably didn't help the situation lol. Anyways, we left a message for our promotion contact and checked out an ice skating rink at Harbourfront :) then stood outside in the snow which quickly turned to rain and handed out our flyers. I think we saw less people tonight than last night, but that could also be a function of having two people there working together.

After we were done the promotion person came out and chatted for a bit, met Neal and thanked us again :) and we showed him the posters which he liked very much :) and we gave him a copy of each of them. And then we headed back to Union Station, Neal caught his bus home and headed home... and here I am. A little damp from the elements but still happy about doing this :)

*yay* it's official now, the posters that Neal and I designed are being used to promote the Sarah Slean shows in December! I'm so giddy about this! I was absolutely terrified that after Sarah loved the initial idea of us making posters that she wouldn't like what I made, but she did and the promoter loves it and now we get to put them up around TO and I got to hand out flyers I made from them after the Sarah Harmer show tonight! It all came together so quickly!

Short version of this story is that we've been emailing with Sarah for a while because there were no posters so we offered to make them. She said sure, we made them, she approved them, send them to the promotion guy and here we are :)

Tonight I got home and Neal called just after I got in to say that the promoter from Eggplant Entertainment had called him and then Neal called him back and got stuff set up for flyers and stuff. We got a lot of great advice about where to put up posters and since it's the same promo company doing the Sarah Harmer shows they also are having us hand out flyers there (just a couple of people, anything more I think would be a Passioneer overload for the poor people leaving the show lol)

But tonight no one could go so I went alone. I also rushed to get one of the posters sized down (which involved a lot of screaming at my computer until I realized it was my parents printer that was messing up, not the file [Thanks Jack!!!!!] and then I calmed down) Then it was a mad dash to Kinkos (oh 24 hour copying what would I do without you?) and I had a great employee there help me get all set up to print, photocopy and then cut all of the flyers up (they seriously need a paper cutter that can take more than 5 sheets of paper at a time lol) then I rushed down to Harbourfront but made it with time to spare (btw anyone who's going there, the streetcars aren't running, you have to take a bus that pulls up around the corner from Union Station, easy to miss!)

Once at Harbourfront I called the promotion guy (who is only nameless here because I don't know if he'd like to be live journaled lol) and he said to see if I could just come right on into the show and if not to call him back. Enter the bitchy usher. Seriously, crazy lady. So I went up and it's 15 minutes before the show is over and she's all "do you have your ticket" .... Ummmm yes I decided to be THIS LATE for a show. Not so much. So I said no but I was meeting with the guy who did the promotion for the show and he said to just come on into the back of the theater. Usher lady did not like this so much and started to get mean and so I said I could just call him... which didn't sit well with her because obviously you can't phone people in a concert. I kept explaining that he was the promotion guy, his phone would be on vibrate and he wouldn't distrub the show.... and she kept insisting on believing I was actually meeting a friend and trying to scam my way in. So she just left me in the lobby and kept pacing back and forth infront of me telling me not to touch my phone. Crazy. So I waited and then promotion guy came out looking for me (which did not make her happier because clearly I had not been lying) and he looked at the flyers and liked them a lot and told me where I should stand after the show etc etc. So I stayed inside where it was warm until the last song and then went out to hand out flyers.

It was actually a lot of fun. Most people were really excited to hear about a Sarah Slean show and one guy even sang a bit of Book Smart Street Stupid to me! Awesome. There were a few older really snooty people who looked at me as though I was trying to hand them a paper that would give them bird flu or something.... but mostly people were so friendly and I ended up talking with this one girl who was waiting for her ride and I hope she comes, she seemed really interested in hearing more Sarah Slean songs.
So overall it was a very postive experience... for which I missed Veronica Mars (possibly the one Alyson Hannigan is guesting on) during Sweeps Month.... Sarah Slean trumped two fandoms in one night lol. And even though tonight I had to do it all alone which was sort of lonely, it worked out to be pretty okay and tomorrow Neal is coming with me which will be more fun :)

So if you see a Sarah Slean poster in the Toronto area over the next little while, I made it :D

here are smaller versions of the three that Sarah approved if you want to check them out :D
