I forgot to write about the snow last night! It was so beautiful. A blizzard of huge snowflakes! I walked my brother to his streetcar stop and exclaimed that it was just like the “snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes” because yes, I am just that cool. Sadly, even though it appeared that it was going to snow loads and loads there wasn’t any snow on the sidewalks this morning. There’s still so much salt down, I feel like I’m crunching my way through a salt mine when I walk to the bus stop. That cannot be good for people’s lawns when the spring comes… It’s so weird that it’s almost the end of January and the snow is so sparse that I can still see patches of grass everywhere.

Did you know that if you have a bank card from one bank you can’t use it to go buy change from another bank? I figured that TD would just charge me a service charge but the teller looked at me like I was stupid and informed me that I was in the wrong bank. I just wanted quarters for laundry, boo urns. I managed to make it to my bank before closing on my way home from work… just makes things more rushed to do that though.

I’ll have some thoughts on the latest VM episode coming soon. I am so glad that show is back! I was feeling a little apathetic about it during the hiatus but they came back with a great episode… more on that later.

Other random tidbits, it's Valentines candy season again, which means many yummy cinnamon hearts (the big kind) and conversation hearts (because I'm one of the few people who love how those taste.) :)

Also I want to see the Alice in Wonderland Musical in NYC!!!!!!!!! Details here: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/83741.html

Also Edward Scissorhands which is playing in Brooklyn: http://www.playbill.com/events/event_detail/11193.html

*sigh* I'm being very VERY tempted to try and do a long weekend in NYC for these.

TD is lame like that!!

I haven't seemed to have problems getting change at Scotiabank or Bank of Montreal...

TD and Royal though, while they've never *refused* to give me change here, both will sort of sneer when I say I have no account there when they ask, but still get me my roll of loonies for laundry (though both of them usually have to do stupid little slips to go get it for me lol)

I never hear anything good about TD, I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was. They're the only bank near to my work so you'd think they'd be used to serving customers who use other banks but I guess not so much.

Well, that certainly looks like a different Alice in Wonderland than the one we're used to!

Me, too! I get tempted every now and then to do a twisted Oz story, but I don't know if I have the courage to tackle the purists.

Well heck, look at how well Wicked worked out ;)

True, but wouldn't you say Wicked is based much more on the movie than the books? It's still quite a change from the original, of course, but i think movie purists aren't as emotionally invested as book fanatics. And if I write a story it'll be based on the books, of course.

The question is, do I have the talent to write a story for adults, maybe even a dark one, while staying true to the characters and whimsey of the orignal?

Nope, I wouldn't say that at all. Many of the minor characters in Wicked turn up in the first Oz book which I didn't catch until I was rereading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Also the shoes are silver, not ruby. I don't know. I see how the physical look of the Witch of the West was used from the movie as opposed to the book but I found it very true to the Baum stories, especially the political spin that Maguire took. It was neat to see that political satyre that Baum was playing with be taken a step further and a step darker.

Actually, it's been a long time since I read "Wonderful Wizard"; maybe it's time I went through my books again! By the way, I love your icon.

I wrote an essay comparing the books when I was in University a couple of years ago and was surprised to see how much came from the original book :)

and I thought you'd like the icon, [livejournal.com profile] iconzicons made a lot of them a while ago :)

I'd better stay away from there; I have enough trouble choosing from the 80 odd icons I already have!

When's Alice playing? Can it be in May when Kristin is doing Encores again? I'm SOOO tempted to take the bus and go in for that, just one or two shows and back again. I can afford it, right? I've been back from NYC for 4 whole days now, time to plan the next trip.

I got sent one of those Playbill deal things for tix Feb 9-25 so it's for sure playing until then... I can't find anything on the length of the run yet. I'd love it if it were playing until May, I could save some money for then...

That is pretty random about the bank. I never go into my bank, I only use the ATM so I guess I would never have to worry about something like that. But that is kinda annoying. Stupid banks and being well, stupid.

Edward Scissorhands... in Brooklyn!? LOL So random. Ahhhh Brooklyn.

And yeah, the snow is so weird. I love snow, and it flurred here today, and it was pretty, then stopped and nothing stuck. I was sad. I wish it would just snow or get warm. Because it being coldish with no snow, not cool.

:)

Indeed, I do much better in cold weather if it's at least pretty :) Snow would help. It was freezing here this afternoon, the temperature so dropped from the morning. Walking home the long way (due to having to go to the bank) was not the most fun ever.

I myself have only been to Brooklyn for about 5 minutes total, one day I shall have to go back :)
