Can't Stop The Serenity
I don't have pictures in this post, just a write up, pictures will come as soon as I see what other people have posted and save some of those to add since I didn't take many pictures.
WOW! Seriously, if you missed doing this event this year, really plan to go next year. This year's was fantastic and I loved it last year but I think that there was just a better idea of what we were doing and we had a lot more to organize so I'm quite impressed with everyone. This is not to say that last year I saw anything that wasn't organized well. I thought it ran great. But I think with the people from last year coming back to help they knew how to make things run well and I was impressed with that.
I started my day picking up Amanda at Union Station. Saw three random Browncoats (they were all in Serenity shirts etc) and asked them if they were on their way to the screening, I think they were a little afraid of me. I'm not scary! I think I need to be less friendly or something lol. Amanda ([Bad username or site: amy_vic) @ livejournal.com] and I met up with no trouble at all and made our way up to the theatre and to her hotel. We were early enough that I was able to walk her up to Eglinton and then make my way back to the theatre. It was neat to walk along the street and hear people talking about Serenity. It's a little surreal, I mean this movie was out, what 3 years ago now, and we can still get a pretty solid amount of people into a theatre AND 47 other cities around the world could do the same. Just fabulous!
So back at the theatre I met up with the other volunteers and started unpacking and setting up. We had a small snag with the theatre but that was due to their staff not fully communicating and the people who were there were wonderful at making sure everything would run smooth when we opened the doors.
I was selling tshirts with Magie and SunnyD, which was a little bit hectic but fun at the same time. I think we almost sold out of tshirts that had not been preordered, there were all of 2 left and I think those may have gone at the Shindig after the movie, not sure though. I was working the pre-orders with SunnyD and I was SO glad to have someone helping me to get the names crossed off on the bags and everything. That's definitely a system we should keep for next year.
I have no idea how things were running inside of the theatre with the auction and the Browncoat Cruise raffle but I'm assuming they ran really well also because there was no one complaning after the movie about not entering or not getting a bid in for the auction.
Serenity was, as usual, fantastic. I find I almost like it more every time I see it because I see more or focus on different things. It's a very detailed movie that can be watched on a simple level but you can go back to it again and again and see more. Joss is a genius that way. I was super emotional yesterday apparently because I cried during much of the movie. I think it was probably that I hadn't slept a lot the night before and I was feeling tired and then had all of the adrenaline from working and just being involved this year in putting on the screening.
After the movie we had the door prizes and boy did we have a lot of them this year! I didn't win :( but it was fun to see everyone win. A few tickets were drawn who weren't there, and I did see a few people leave right after the movie. Their loss. Then we did the draw for the Browncoat Cruise finalist, I didn't win that either, no cruise for me. Oh well. Next up was the auction. For which most people in the theatre left. I think it would have been neat to stay even if one wasn't bidding because it's always fun to watch but again, their loss. I was actually really impressed, most of the items went for a lot of money and everyone who was there had no problem with our format of bidding (it was a silent auction before the movie that went live afterwards with the highest bid being our starting price.) I had a lot of fun just watching people bid and seeing who went home with what.
After the movie many people trekked over to the Shindig. Andrea and I made our way over there having NO idea where we were going. But we found it okay and I was able to get my tshirt money to Sheilah right away. I somehow had $450 and tshirts were $20 each and it took me 'til this morning to realize that I'd kicked in an extra $10 along the way with my float. But it's all for charity (Equality Now) so that's fine :) I can't wait to see what our total was. I'm watching the Can't Stop The Serenity website as well to see what their final total is. I think it'll beat last year for sure :) They're just over $15, 000 now.
At the Shindig Heather had a free raffle for the last Serenity movie poster she had and we also played a game were we all got handed a Serenity playing card and we had to find our matching card to get a prize. Tom was my match which was random since I think I'd seen him during the game and must have chatted about something other than matching cards but he found me later that night and we got our prizes :)
I left early but I was SO tired, there was no staying 'til the end of this Shindig for me lol. Tom was kind enough to give me a ride home even though I didn't end up having boxes for moving or anything. I got in at 9pm and lay on the couch "just for a minute" and next thing I knew it was 4am. I think I woke up briefly after 1, but only for long enough to make the realization that I was sleeping on the couch and then I was out 'til 4. I woke up with the tv and lights still on, found that Veronica Mars was just starting (Hot Dogs from season 1) so I watched that, revelled in the prettyness that was Season 1 and the whole Logan and Veronica lovelyness, went to my actual bed at 5 and slept for 3 more hours while dreaming of being kissed, so hey that's always good :) I blam the LoVe for that and blame it happily :)
Today will be a day of moving some boxes, more on that later.

Date: 2007-06-25 02:03 am (UTC)(Sorry, I'm like a 6-year-old on a sugar high. Still.)
I'll have to remember to include the details of the auction and the 'after you left the bar' stuff in my write up; it was very fun, especially the auction.
We raised $15 000 so far? Damn, that's awesome. Do you know how much of that was just from Toronto?
Also, why did you not get on my case about not taking pictures? Because I totally do not have any (save for two, and one of those showcases my supreme lack of photography skills), and I'm sort of kicking myself in the ass about it now. But still, I had a freaking BLAST. I mean, I had A BLAST X INFINITY.

Date: 2007-06-25 02:10 am (UTC)Do you have a facebook? There are lots of pictures from Browncoats going up there, I posted mine (there's a link in the next entry on here) and you don't need a Facebook to see those.
I'm glad you had fun, I definitly want to read the after I left the bar stuff. I cannot believe how tired I was, I usually sleep like 6-7 hours a night, 8 if I'm sleeping in, I don't do 11 hours on a usual basis LOL. You'll for sure have to come in to town for shindigs sometime. When I've moved I should have the ability for people to come crash with me again :)
