Where's Waldo is a banned book?? why?? thats weird!

The Great Gilly Hopkins is a book our teacher read to the class in grade 6 and I loved it! Hmmm... again, I don't see what was wrong with it!

People ban the weirdest books. I have no idea why one would ban Where's Waldo but I'd guess that someone took offence to some of the illustrations... people ban EVERYTHING.

It's always stupid to ban a book, but some of these choices are ridiculous.

I'm going to hazard the guess that a lot of these selections are banned in the Bible Belt... Harry Potter I remember reading was banned there, witchcraft you know ;)

I saw a letter to the editor in TV Guide the other day, in which a mother said she can't find anything on the Disney Channel for her kids to watch because of all the Disney shows involving witchcraft. This is a new thing? Disney's been doing witches since Snow White!

I read and reread the Oz books, over and over again all thorugh my childhood, and I still haven't joined a coven; I think I'm doing okay.

LMAO Whoever decided that letter got printed in TV Guide must have been laughing so hard.

I used to read everything about witches I could get my hands on, I've turned out okay. No worshipping Satan ;)

I'm just glad they didn't all turn out like Margaret Hamilton's version in the Wizard of Oz movie, which is the first witch I ever remember seeing. She scared the crap out of me.

How in the world could anyone ban The Giver? It's still one of the most beautiful books I've ever read.

I really can rarely see the sense behind a book being banned. Sometimes I can see the argument even if I don't agree with it but in most cases I just don't get it. Why keep such great books away from people?

Exactly. If you don't think something is appropriate for your own child, then don't let your child read it. Don't try to get it banned so no one else can read it either.

I once met a girl who was afraid of the Harry Potter books. We were selling the 4th one when I worked in a hotel gift shop here and this girl, her mom and I'm guessing a friend of the family came in. They sounded like they were from the Southern US somewhere.

Anyways the friend of the family saw we had HP4 on the shelf and went to give it to the little girl and this girl literally backed away from the book saying "mama says I shouldn't read those." It was a cross between funny because it was so stereotypical and sad because this poor kid was being made to miss out on something great because her mom had some problem with the books.
