elizalavelle: (Firefly - Mal/Inara shindig)
Fantastic Shindig tonight :) New venue with tasty food. I felt so bad for our poor waitress, she was the only one working that night and the front of the house was packed and then there was a room full of Browncoats in the back. She was almost run off of her feet!

I got to chat with lots of people as well as having complete fandom overload: Farscape season four, Buffy comic (*Mel I owe you a fic, prompt me with something and I'll see what I can come up with :) * ) and Broadway DVDs! I don't even know where to start! No that's not true, I totally read the comic in the middle of the Shindig. I took a brief antisocial moment and gave it the first read through :)

Many fun conversations all night. I really do like the Browncoats, they're all such interesting people! As is becoming the norm Tom, Jo and myself finished out the night, we went to Second Cup after we finished up at the pub :) They're already planning for me to get hooked on Babylon 5 next, and also Battlestar Galactica, I shall be kept very busy for the next few months with new television I believe.

Time for bed now, Zion is having a minor spaz now that I'm home. His mommy is out of town this weekend so he's a little anxious. Add to that the fact that I've started cleaning out my room a bit and so his space is being reorganized.... all of this apparently leads to him needing to bat my lip gloss down the hallway. I'm going to be finding my stuff all over the apartment I think. Good thing he's an adorable cat :)

Time for bed and then I'm going swimming tomorrow, I'm so excited to swim, it's been over a year since I last went. I passed on most summer activities last summer because of my leg (allergic reaction to my parent's dog/possibly something else in their house) but it's almost completely healed this year so swimming is back on the list of things I can do :)

Another weekend gone already! I was hardly home at all! I spent much of Saturday on the TTC... my bus to the station was late, my subway change took forever at Museum (although I'm still enjoying going through lower Bay station!) and so I missed my Go bus to Hamilton. Oops. Fortunately Leigh wasn't in a hurry for lunch so I just took the next bus and in the meantime did a bit of shopping and found a copy of O.R. Mellings 'Book of Dreams' which I am eager to read :)

Hamilton was fun. I've not seen Leigh in so long and soon she'll be a Mom, so exciting! I bought her baby his first baby book (The Velveteen Rabbit) yes I am so going to be the book aunt ;) We had a lovely lunch at My Thai, their veggie fried rice was fantastic! And I even braved what I think might have been squid on the appetizer plate and as I don't do seafood very often that's a big thing for me :) Much chatting on about everything. I'll have to try to make it back out there before she has her baby :)

Then we rushed back to the Go station in Hamilton and I just barely caught my bus home (I think I made it with 2 minutes to spare, not at all like me LOL) and then spent Saturday night watching Buffy: 'Welcome to the Hellmouth' and 'The Harvest' in the spirit of the 10 year anniversary :) I am amused that I can still quote almost line for line with the show :)

Today I thought I was awake early but had forgotten the time change (if you've not yet "sprung forward" be sure to do that tonight, no being late for work!) so I was actually up just in time to call Jo and head out to her place. I was late again because the subway change took forever. About 6 trains that weren't mine went by before mine came. But I was reading Accursed, the first of the Ghosts of Albion novels and because of the delay I was able to finish it up and so Jo lent me the second one, which I've already started and am quite throughly enjoying :) We went out for lunch... which was actually at dinnertime... at Ginger 2 on Yonge and it was quite tasty and had great prices with huge portions. I must remember that place.

Bedtime soon, even with the time change I feel like it's late and it's actually crazy early. I think it's because I know work may be a battle tomorrow and I'll need lots of rest.

Oh and Eliza Dusku fans on the flist, she just landed a new pilot... on Fox. Cross your fingers that it gets made and then not cancelled. Info is here: on Whedonesque.

The weekend is turning out to be quite splendid :) On Friday night I got a call from my friend Leigh who I'd not heard from in ages! I'm going to head out to visit her next weekend. She's now just over 5 months pregnant so I went out today to do baby shopping. I've been waiting for years for someone I know to get pregnant so I can do baby shopping! I love the little little things. I bought her baby 2 sleepers and a cute onesy (I just couldn't choose only one!) and then of course being me I had to go pick out a book. I wanted to get "I Love You Forever" but my assumption is that EVERYONE thinks of that book first so she probably already has it. But I did find a cute cardboard book copy of "The Velveteen Rabbit" which is another favourite so I went with that :) Much shopping all day but fun.

I also was trying to find "The Book of Dreams" by O.R. Melling and was highly disappointed to not find it. I found the 4 books in that series together in one volume which I considered even though I have the first three in a volume already. What almost got me is that the first book ("The Hunter's Moon") had been revised so I thought that could be neat to read. I started reading it in the store though and they've updated the references to be ones for the Lord of the Rings movies and that just doesn't do it for me so I passed on that. I'll have to find the stand alone volume on it's own somewhere.

Then I settled in for a quiet evening at home, did some dishes and cleaning, had a nice dinner and then was surprised by a phone call from Tom who was going to be heading by my place on his way home and had the third season of Farscape for me to borrow :) So he stopped by and we watched the first episode :) When I'm done the entire series and movie I'm going to have to do a full entry on my thoughts about this series, it's just brilliant and keeps getting better the further in they get!

So altogether the weekend is shaping up to be just lovely :) I hope everyone who's reading this is having a great weekend as well!

I know I promised a VM review for the latest episode... but then my computer ate it and I don't feel like re-typing. Ergo I sum it up in a spoiler free "SQUEE" and move on :)

Yesterday was busy busy busy but fun. I was up early, fought with my computer to burn a Bway CD for Jo and then was out the door to go to Viv's place :) I ended up waking her up but surprisingly she was cheerful about it :) The lucky girl is seeing Guster play tomorrow night! I so would go except it would wipe me out for work the next day and I just was sick on Friday and I don't want to have to ask if I can come in later so soon after that. Viv, I know you're lurking on here as of late but I'd love to read a review of the show :)

I also picked up my Firefly loaner set from her so Dell and Danny when you guys want to watch them I'll bring them by/you can pick them up :)

Viv and I also hit up Blockbuster as I was leaving and I got 4 really excellent looking films from Mongrel's Festival Collection:

The End of Silence, The Forest for the Trees, Things To Do, and Our Town. Much watching to do soon :)

Then I stopped off at the bank to order more cheques and then went to my parents place and chatted with my dad for a few hours before the Shindig :)

The Shindig downtown was fun (as they always are.) I met some new people and got so talk with lots of friends. I was still feeling a bit sore headed after the Friday migrane so I had to pass on the fabulous chocolatey brownie that was being shared (and cannot believe I missed an opportunity to slip in the Brownie song from Reefer Madness, darn!) but I did eat a fabulous bread pudding that tasted of rum and custard :) No complaints here. I also have borrowed the first season of Farscape from Tom which I hope to start tomorrow evening :) and a fabulous looking (and massive) graphic novel called Blankets which has come so highly recommended that I'm very excited about that one as well :) As ususal the evening was full of great conversations and Tom, Jo, Kevin and myself were the last to leave. That's somewhat the habit by now. Just as we were getting into the car to head home (thank you again Tom for the ride!) a homeless man came asking for help buying food so I gave him my leftovers from dinner. I hope he liked it :)

Today was much less busy, all I had to get done really was grocery shopping and cooking dinner. I worked on my Buffy icon set a bit, slept slept slept and watched the Grease "You're The One That I Want" Broadway auditions because even though it's reality it's also Broadway and so far it's pretty darn fun to watch :) Now it's time for Crossing Jordan and then bed so I can be somewhat coherent tomorrow for work... and hopefully have far less head pain :)

A very

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

to

[livejournal.com profile] browncoat_2x2

I hope you have a wonderful day full of all that you wish for!
elizalavelle: (VM good love out there)
It has been a blissfully relaxing weekend, just what I needed :)

I slept in on Saturday and then went over to Jo's house where we spent much of the day chatting and she hemmed my pants (THANK YOU!) and we watched Eurotrip (because I hadn't seen it... note to self Michelle Trachtenburg acting any older than 12 years old squiks me out... she's freaking Harriet the Spy... or Buffy's little sister, not some topless chick in Europe... however apparently she and the LoHo are fighting so I have to support that ;) ) and had a fabulous sushi dinner. By the time we were done I thought it was around 7 o clock, in reality it was 10:30, oops.

Then today the only thing I had to do was grocery shopping. I also have managed to deposit a couple of cheques *yay* and picked up 3 DVDs at Blockbuster with my giftcards (thank you Viv and work.) I bought:

Slither - which I've been waiting and waiting and waiting to buy but it kept being $28.99 in stores and while I thought it was absolutely hilarious I'm not about to pay more than $30 for a movie. So I'm very glad I was able to buy that one :)

RENT - I KNOW how many of you are shocked that I didn't have this one yet? Honestly after seeing the show SO many times I wasn't in a huge rush to own the movie, I knew it would always be there so it kept getting pushed back so I could buy other movies.

Akeelah and the Bee - one of the cutest movies ever. I saw this one in theatres (actually I've seen all 3 of these movies in theatres, neat) I just think this movie is so sweet and also it's quite a good film. A lot of family movies tend to be complete dribble that I'm not interested in. This one was well constructed and a joy to watch :)

And that's my day. Tonight I want to keep working on my Buffy icon series (season 3 now) and also to try to be asleep at a reasonable hour (how old and boring do I sound? LOL)
elizalavelle: (V for Vendetta Evey's room)
I have a belated resolution/assignment for myself... whichever. Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to read 100 books this year. Then promptly convinced Dell to do the same :) So anyone else who wants to try for reading 100 books in a year join in! AND if anyone at all has any really good books to suggest let me know and I'll add them to my list :) I'm onto book 3 so far. I think I'll do a LJ post at the end of every month with that month's reading and then at the end of the year put them all together :)

I was in the east end of town this weekend and got to see Dell! Much fun, we watched American History X (because I hadn't seen it yet, I had just bought it a little while ago and hadn't sat down to watch it until last night) which is a fine movie. Upsetting, conversation provoking and visually stunning. Then I wandered downstairs to her brother's apartment as my brother had ended up over there and I figured I'd see if he was leaving earlyish and have someone to walk with and the boys had just started V for Vendetta. Ergo I had to stay. I'd forgotten how important I really think that movie is. I for sure have to get the graphic novel sometime this year, and buy the DVD. I want to get the special edition one so I'm holding out until it drops a bit in price.

And I leave you with a quiz I nabbed from Rosie. My picture freaks me out!

I haven't written about the rest of my weekend yet. Oops.

I went to a Hallowe'en party that Nicole had on Saturday night. I dressed up as Alice from the American McGee's Alice computer game (my brother is so proud lol) and Nomi went as a girl from the early 60's (think Veronica Mars when she was going to the sorority parties.) Cameron came over to our place and was dressed as a C.S.I. When we got to Nic's house it turned out that her party was huge! SO many people had showed up. Somehow we managed to find Neal as he was just on his way out and then we ended up in Nic's studio for the rest of the evening which was nice because I didn't know anyone really downstairs so in the studio we just met a few new people at a time lol. Nicole was a fabulous hostess! Food and drinks were continually being circulated (including Miguel's awesome Pina Coladas and some special brownies) and a good time was had by all. Also Nic's art is fantastic, there are a lot of new pieces up throughout her apartment and she's done some stunning pieces.

Back to today: HAPPY HALLOWE'EN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Slean's Orphan Music is released today! There is much excitement on that front! But first I must get dressed up for work :)
elizalavelle: (Idina defy)
Why is Shoshawna Bean in the TO Wicked cast?

However I *knew* there had to have been a reason that I didn't buy my tickets a year early when Mirvish put them on sale ;) Perhaps she's improved greatly, still, glad to not be out that $100.

In other news I dreamt of Sarah Slean concerts all night. Some 4 night in a row series of concerts that appeared to be taking place at Disney World but it didn't look like Disney but they kept being mention of trying to see the 3pm parade. No clue what was going on. However, *yay* concerts ;)

And now it's time for work :) So much to do today! But Delly's coming over for some Grey's tonight so that's awesome :D
elizalavelle: (PotC - big damn hero)
I went to bed early early last night, I was passing out by 10! I think it's because I strained my neck a little and then started feeling migraine pain again (eventually I'm going to have to go get this checked out, not so cool at all.) However, I had a great day anyways. I met up with Ashley and heard all about her trip to Japan! It sounds like for the most part she had a wonderful time :) And she brought me a PotC date book which has all of the Japanese holidays in it, so fun!

I also found the ONLY store in TO which carries my camera battery so I picked up my second battery :) No more "low battery" nonsense for me now!

We grabbed a quick lunch and then browsed Sam the Record Man (which keeps getting more and more overpriced for anything that's not currently on sale... I remember when it was the better place to shop) and HMV. I bought DVDs which was very bad, I should not be shopping, but I picked up the Roseanne Hallowe'en DVD. I don't know if I'm going to buy all of their seasons but their Hallowe'en episodes kick ass so I thought those would be fun to have this month. And I also FINALLY found Return to Oz which I realize now (after reading the box) is apparently only supposed to be for sale in the USA. Gee thanks Disney :( However this was an import and while it was a little pricey I bought it because that is one of my absolute favourite movies.

Then time to head home, watched more of The 4400 because my brother is anxiously waiting for me to finish with season 2 so he can have it. I find that so awesome, he used to avoid EVERYTHING I liked. TV, movies, music, books, if I said it was good he decided that he'd have nothing to do with it. Now he's been converted to Firefly, loves the Enders Game series, and is now hooke on The 4400 :) He also wants to take in a Sarah Slean show sometime in TO!

So now then today, I woke up early early early (6:30) due to going to bed early last night. Ergo I decided to get up and go take pictures of the sunrise down by the lake. There were actually a pair of professional photographers doing the same thing but they were all about staying near to their car and leaving their Tim Hortons coffee cups lying around on the ground, whereas I promptly climbed down the rocks. I think I got some pretty decent shots (pic spam coming soon.) As I was leaving I stopped to get pictures of the swans framed by the sunrise (not sure how they worked out yet) and I was so amused to see that after I left the pros went running for my spot.

And now I have showered (it was SO cold out this morning and damp, my feet were soaked through!) and I'm going to pack up some laundry and head on to my parents house for Thanksgiving.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone who is celebrating this weekend :)
elizalavelle: (new dress)
I'm going to have my review of the Sarah Slean concert after work tonight.

But this is my preliminary post to firstly say a HUGE thank you again to Cameron for driving Andrea and I there and back, especially back because he had work very early this morning and still waited until the end to talk to Sarah and I thought we'd have been getting out of there around 11 and really it was around 12 so eep, but it turned out okay.

Show was amazing amazing amazing! One new song that is absolutely beautiful and I hope is on the new album. Lots of reworked favourites. *sigh* I am a happy Passioneer :)

...who now must hurry up and get ready for work!

(also a huge thank you to my boss for letting me push my schedule back an hour so I could attempt to get a regular amount of sleep :)
elizalavelle: (Mal/Inara shindig)
And now on to the Browncoat Shindig last night. First of all can I just say how much I adore Browncoats. I mean we're all a little bit geeky over our fandoms but everyone just are fascenating well read, well travelled, people. I had so many conversations last night which weren't relating to anything Joss Whedon related at all and got a lot of advice and stories and just had a ball!

We went to the Elephant and Castle on Yonge st. Made too much noise there calling out everyone's names, had to quiet down a little... and then I'm sure were still loud again after lol. I saw lots of people I remembered from SFX and then so many new people. Some actually new to the group, most just new to me. Food there was lovely. I had the castle stir fry (just veggies) and loved it! I had been starving all day so dinner was a fabulous idea. Conversation was, as mentioned above, wonderful. From Canadian TV shows, to teaching, to musicals....to dinosaurs having sex on Jason's head (pic spam coming soon) we covered a lot!

After dinner Tom and I took Rosie out to Tim Hortons as she's just come overseas to Canada from the UK and hadn't tried it yet. It took a while (and me getting mildly lost) to find one that was open late but we did and she's now discovered the double double and Timbits ;) Very Canadian :)

It was just a great night, I got in SO late and now I'm rushing like mad to get ready for the Slean concert but it's totally worth it!

PS NEW SLEAN ALBUM DUE OUT LATER THIS MONTH. Check out the messageboard at www.sarahslean.com in the articles section and it's there!
elizalavelle: (Inara big damn hero)
*yay* it's the long weekend already! I'm spending it at SFX. It means I'm missing out on Dells cottage yet again (clearly I'm always doing that this summer) but it's supposed to rain so at least I'm not missing out on swimming that much. Next summer I should try to use some vacation time to cottage.

For now it's off to SFX and meeting many Browncoats and all sorts of fun. I have no idea really what to expect as the last con I ever went to was when I was 14 and had no idea of what to expect or really what was going on. But I got to jump the autograph line to meet Nicholas Lea so that was positive :) I'll have a huge review with pictures coming soon!

I hope everyone has a blast this weekend and gets to do something fun for the end of summer!
elizalavelle: (VM Lilly dreams on)
Movies movies movies. Hee firstly on Thursday I introduced Nomi to the entertainment that is Reefer Madness the musical. I really really enjoy that movie, the freaking dvd has all but disappeared from shelves so I'll have to order that one eventually. We noted on our walk for candy for the movie that we live near to the Polish Governor General. There are some amazing houses near to us.

Then last night was Nomi's bday so we went to go see Bon Cop Bad Cop for her :) From the trailer my reaction had been "that movie looks pretty good for a Canadian movie" meaning that a lot of Canadian movies are GREAT but don't have the budget to pull off all that they wanted to do, but this one was really really good. I was super impressed and will be buying the dvd. There was a little bit of everything in there. I was highly entertained the whole while. I was no impressed by the couple who came in late and then had their cell phone ringing (on vibrate mind you but still I could hear it) for parts of the movie. I dunno I'm of the mindset that if you can't make it on time then catch the next show.

And now I've finally got a virusscan program for my computer again so I'm running that and hoping that I haven't downloaded anything too funky in the past little while.
elizalavelle: (LM night sky)
Now I almost forgot to write about the AIDS benefit show that we went to on Friday night. Nancy (whom I know of through Sarah Slean concerts) put it together and sang and did a fabulous job at both! I'm always blown away when I find out people who I know are greatly talented, and Nancy is a great singer! A great start to our night.

Lindi was also performing and she was the reason we decided to go, I quite like her performances. There was also a singer named Emma-Lee who was really good, oh and the surprise greatness of the night was a singer named Alexandra Slate who when she took the stage reminded me of what Lilly Kane would look like had she decided to be a singer but then she (Alexandra) started to sing and she's seriously amazing. Her brother also performed (Gavin Slate) and it turns out that he goes to school with my brother, small small world. And the closing band was No Stone who were so good! I love our TO talent.

And not only was it a super fun musical night but we also ran into Cam who I'd not seen in forever (and good thing too since the show ran late and he was able to get Joel back home) and we saw Nic and Miguel who I haven't seen much of lately either (all my own fault.) We also got free handcuffs and fingercuffs from the movie Bon Cop Bad Cop which are always fun :D

Oh and lest I forget we had an awesome veggie dinner at Kensington Market with Neal :)

AND Saturday I spent wayyyyyy too much money at Vortex, BMV and Sugar Mountain (SM had a Wizard of Oz wastebasket and we needed one for the bathroom and I couldn't resist it!) AND we also went to see PotC 2 again. It's almost cleared a billion dollars this summer, I think it'll make it before the summer is out. Dell and her friend Anna hadn't seen it yet so they got to go for the first time :) Always fun!
elizalavelle: (SNL NP don't sleep)
I'm sleepy today. I woke up 45 minutes early (unpleasant) and then managed to drop off for about another 1/2 an hour but I don't like interrupted sleep that late in the night. I'd rather wake up at around 3 or 4 and then get a few more hours sleep. I always feel more tired when I fall back asleep for just a last little bit at the end of the night. Of course even though I know this there was no power on earth that was going to get me to get up 45 minutes early.

I went shopping with my brother last night. He was heading out to buy the new Mario game for Nintendo DS (which I tried out later in the night and even I love this one :D) However we ended up stopping by Winners to look for bedding for me. His suggestion actually, I always forget that we have a Winners now. Anyways I got a beautiful dark blue duvet cover and a nice ivory white body pillow (both of which have a very similar vine & flower pattern on them) and then I didn't get the nice matching ivory sheets (although I'm asking for them ;) ) but I found purple tshirt material sheets and those are so comfy and they were the last ones so I grabbed those instead. And yesterday I got a floor lamp with a purple shade :) My bedroom portion of the apartment is almost ready. Of course for kitchen stuff I have nil so I need to work on that like woah :)

Viv goes to Ireland today! Lucky her! Bon voyage to you Viv, don' t hurt your family ;)
elizalavelle: (90210 sup bitches)
So aside from trying to figure out hydro stuff I've been pretty productive this weekend. I moved some stuff into the apartment, booked the hotel for August, saw PotC ;) You know, essential things.

I also picked up Danny Michel's new cd at the Six Shooter Records store by my house that also gave me some cute "I love art" pins with my purchase. And the cd was only $15.90. Now that's a good cd price! None of this 24.99 crap. If all stores would smarten up and price cds like that I'd buy a whole lot more.

And I think it's today that Viv comes back to TO :D *yay*

What Your Soul Really Looks Like

You are quite expressive and thoughtful. You see the world in a way that others are blind to.

You are a very grounded, responsible, and realistic person. People may not want to hear the truth from you, but they're going to get it.

You believe that people see you for how you are, not how you look. But deep down, you know that's not exactly true.

Your near future is still unknown, and a little scary. You'll get through wild times - and you'll textually enjoy it.

For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn't fall in love with someone you didn't trust.

Neat.

And for anyone who doesn't know TOMORROW is the charity screening of Serenity here in TO. They still have tickets left, so go and buy, I may have to buy an extra for another shot at those door prizes ;)

Jo's coming with me and she's a Firefly fan! I'd forgotten that she's seen pretty much everything ;) well everything good anyways. So she'll get the story which is fab :D

You Are Midnight

You are more than a little eccentric, and you're apt to keep very unusual habits.
Whether you're a nightowl, living in a commune, or taking a vow of silence - you like to experiment with your lifestyle.
Expressing your individuality is important to you, and you often lie awake in bed thinking about the world and your place in it.
You enjoy staying home, but that doesn't mean you're a hermit. You also appreciate quality time with family and close friends.

Hee the Xfiles episode Wetwired is on tonight, I love this one.

Tomorrow is friday, I am so ready for the weekend! Nomi gets here friday night and then Saturday we'll be apartment hunting like woah. Think nice apartment thoughts for us :D I hope we can find something nice. I want a pretty place to live

For now I'm totally wiped, time for some good sleeping :)
elizalavelle: (tell me no)
Nomi and I are going apartment hunting this weekend :D She rocks and has found us some really sweet apartments to visit. I have three favourites so far but we'll have to see them in person. One of the places has one of the bedrooms painted a really lovely shade of purple... can you tell that would be my favourite ;) That whole apartment was just repainted and the whole thing looks just so spiffy. Hopefully we can find a place and get set up...and then I have to start really packing like woah. I keep finding DVDs and books everywhere, such is my room. Then throw in some Oz stuff and Buffy stuf... some musical theatre merch.... and I think far too many clothes. ...

and 6/6/6 whatever, I had a great day. My tickets to the Serenity screening came today as did my ticket to see Sarah Slean in August (although I'll sleep a little easier when that show is up on her website... I'd like to have official confirmation before I book the hotel room. ... I also need to stop looking at the available tickets and debating lol I love who I'm sitting with and I think we have damn awesome seats and then I keep double guessing myself. Their seating chart drives me crazy, silly disappearing seats lol. There shall be no moving, hell as long as I'm there and can see I'm going to be over the moon happy.
